Warriors fall to Falcons

Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Julia Antonelli (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) notched 16 points and seven rebounds to lead the Lycoming College women's basketball team on Wednesday night, Feb. 5, but an early second-half run helped first-place Messiah College take a 64-49 Commonwealth Conference decision.
 
Antonelli crossed 1,100 career points with her 14th of 16 points on the night and she also added a career-high six steals. The Warriors (9-10 overall, 6-7 Commonwealth) were aggressive all night, forcing 22 turnovers, which led to 26 points, but the Falcons (14-6 overall, 10-3 Commonwealth) shot 53 percent from the field and also managed 21 points off 15 turnovers.
 
The Warriors took an early lead at 7-5 with 14:17 left in the first half, when junior Janelle Ziminski (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) picked up a loose ball and found sophomore Olivia Manges (York, Pa./West York) for a layup. However, a 3-pointer by Taylor Miller started a 13-2 run that was capped by a traditional 3-point play by Dominique Seamon with 10:46 left.
 
The Warriors cut into the 10-point gap, though, using a 10-4 run capped on a 3-pointer by Ziminski as the shot clock rolled down with 4:11 left. The Falcons hit the next two buckets after that, but Antonelli scored on a layup with 1:19 left to cut the lead to six at the break.
 
The Falcons took over the game in the first seven minutes of the second half, going on a 19-0 run to take a 48-23 lead. The Falcons led by as many as 27 with 7:43 left, but the Warriors fought back with an 18-4 run in the closing minutes to cut the gap to 13 with 1:15 left, but could get no closer.
 
Manges and sophomore Victoria Siebecker (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona) each posted seven points. Freshman Nicole Calella (Sandyston, N.J./Kittatinny Regional) posted six points, four rebounds and three assists and sophomore Chelsea Henderson (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) posted six points, six rebounds and two assists.
 
Katelyn Vanderhoff led the Falcons with 15 points, seven rebounds, five steals and three assists and Gillian Glackin added 12 points and two blocks. Dominique Seamon also posted 11 points and Hannah Nichols notched nine points and seven rebounds. Chelsea Danel added four assists.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Saturday, Feb. 8, when they head to Stevenson for a 3 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game.
