Antonelli uses double-double to leave Lamade with 51-36 win over Hood

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – On Senior Day, Julia Antonelli (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) put together another signature performance with 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lycoming College women's basketball team to a 51-36 over Hood College to cap the Commonwealth Conference season with a winning record for the first time in school history on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 22, at Dutch Burch Court at Lamade Gym.
 
Antonelli posted her 26th career double-double and her 10th of the season to lead the Warriors (13-11 overall, 10-8 Commonwealth), who finished with a winning record in conference play for the first time since the 1997-98 team finished 9-5 in the Freedom League. Antonelli also added two blocks and two assists.
 
The win was also the 200th all-time for the women's basketball team at Lamade Gym, as the team improved to 200-157 in Lamade Gym's 34 years.
 
Lycoming took off in the second half with a 13-2 run over the first 10 minutes to take a 37-26 lead, as Antonelli led the run with four points. After Hood scored three points to cut the lead to eight with 5:52 left, the Warriors finished the game on a 14-7 run, leading by as many as 17 after two free throws from Antonelli with 2:00 left.
 
Hood (6-19 overall, 3-15 Commonwealth) used a 8-1 run to take a 15-7 lead with 13:45 left in the first half, but the Warriors responded with 13 straight points to take a 20-15 lead on a run that featured two 3-pointers from sophomore Olivia Manges (York, Pa./West York) and one from junior Janelle Ziminski (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area). Hood closed the gap with five straight points, tying the game with 7:13 left and neither team had more than a two-point lead the rest of the half, with a pair of Hood free throws with 38 seconds left tying the game at 24 as they headed into the break.
 
Ziminski finished with eight points, two assists and two rebounds and junior Ali Derr (New Columbia, Pa./Milton Area) added eight points and six rebounds. Manges posted seven points and sophomore Chelsea Henderson (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) added six points, six rebounds, four steals, three blocks and two assists. Freshman Nicole Calella (Sandyston, N.J./Kittatinny Regional) posted four points and five rebounds.
 
Rachel Kessler led Hood with 10 points and seven rebounds and Rachel Wiley added nine rebounds, as Hood outrebounded the Warriors, 54-40, but shot just 19 percent (12-of-62) from the floor. Brittney George added seven points and Jessy Burke picked up eight rebounds and two blocks.
 
Before the game, Antonelli and fellow seniors Jenna Morgan (Tyrone, Pa./Juniata Valley) and Victoria Kowalski (Mahopec, N.Y./Lakeland) were honored in a brief ceremony for their contributions to Warrior basketball.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Monday night, Feb. 24, when they start the Commonwealth Conference Tournament as the No. 5 seed. They open the tournament by heading to No. 4-seed Stevenson for a 7 p.m. game and the winner will play at top-seeded Lebanon Valley on Wednesday, Feb. 26.
