CARLISLE, Pa. – Senior
Matt McCaffer (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) notched his eighth career hat trick to lead the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team to start the season, but seventh-ranked Dickinson was able to use 10 first-half goals to notch a 17-4 non-conference win.

McCaffer notched a goal in the second quarter and then notched two in the fourth, as the Warrior offense scored three times in the final period, as Lycoming (0-1 overall) took 24 shots in the game and Dickinson (1-0 overall) took 52.

In the first quarter, the Warriors cleared a pair of Dickinson offensive efforts early, but the seventh-ranked Devils struck twice midway through the quarter, with Chris Menard and Will Scott both finding the twine.

From there, the Devils scored twice more in the first and posted five in the second, including two man-up goals before the old Warrior duo of junior
Sean Reilly (Corning, N.Y./Corning Painted Post West) and McCaffer got the Warriors on the board with 1:59 left, as McCaffer took Reilly pass and found the back of the net. Still, the Devils headed into the break with a 10-1 lead.

In the second half, the Warriors slowed the Devils down, holding them to three goals in the third quarter. In the fourth, Reilly found McCaffer for another goal at the 12:15 mark. After a goal by the Devils to make it 14-2, McCaffer earned his hat trick with a man-up goal at 9:36. Junior
Steve Troup (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) also scored in the fourth, as Lycoming finished off a three-goal period.

Brian Cannon led the Devils with three goals and three assists and Will Scott added three goals and two assists. Chris Menard also added three goals and Brian Gleason posted two goals and two assists. Carter Moore led the Devils with nine groundballs, as he won 11-of-12 faceoffs. Michael Smith caused four turnovers and Youssef Gorgi added three takeaways.

In net, junior
Alex Wylly (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) stopped 16 shots to start his season. Max Pawk made three stops and allowed one goal in the first half before Palmer Murray stopped four shots and allowed three goals in the second half for the Devils.

The Warriors will get back on the field on Saturday, Feb. 22, when they open their home slate against defending Landmark Conference champion Susquehanna at 1 p.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
