Warriors set for ninth Hoops for Hounds Classic opener against Delaware Valley

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - With the Lycoming College women's basketball team's in the midst of its first five-game winning streak since 2009, the team will end its two-week break for the holiday on Sunday, Dec. 28, when it hosts Delaware Valley in the first round of the Hoops for Hounds Classic at 5 p.m.

Donations of pet food and pet toys as well as monetary donations will be accepted to benefit the Lycoming County Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), as the nine-year old event has raised thousands and raised awareness for the Lycoming County organization.

The Warriors (8-1 overall) have won four of the five games during their current hot stretch by double figures, including the past two by 20 points. The team is coming off an 83-61 win over Penn College in which 14 players found the scoring column.

The Aggies (4-7 overall) have won two of their last three games, including an 84-58 rout of Bryn Athyn on Dec. 19, as senior guard Brittany Wood led the way with 16 points.

• With a win, the Warriors can improve to 9-1 for the first time since 1996-97.

• The Warriors are 5-3 all-time in the first round of the Hoops for Hounds Classic.

• Junior Olivia Manges became the 38th player in school history to reach 500 career points with her two points at Penn College.

• With 133 career steals, senior Janelle Ziminski is six shy of 10th in school history, where Lyndy LeVan (1999-03) sits with 139.

• Freshman Shelby Mueller is shooting 56.8 percent (21-of-37) from the field in the last four games.

• Junior Chelsea Henderson has at least one steal in each of the last nine games.

• Sophomore Nicole Calella has five games with four or more assists this year.

• The Warriors are tied for the Commonwealth Conference lead with a .356 field goal percentage defense and lead the league with a .262 3-point field goal percentage defense.
