Warriors win seven events on second day at Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Senior Dan Woods (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg North) had another huge day at the Swarthmore Invitational, posting a Middle Atlantic Conference-best time in the 100-yard butterfly and adding one more individual win to lead the Lycoming College swim teams, which won seven events and broke one school record on the second day of invite on Saturday, Nov. 22.
 
Woods finished first in the 100-yard butterfly, posting a 52.07 despite a false start in his first try in the race. He came back to post the MAC's best time in the event this year before hopping back into the pool one event later to take the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.23, just .04 off the MAC's best time this season.
 
Freshman Andrew Canavan (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) also had a huge day in the pool, as he finished second in both the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes. In the 100-yard backstroke, he notched a time of 55.92 and then he posted a 1:59.05 in the 200-yard event, breaking the school-record of 1:59.22 set by Matt Houseknecht in 1996. The time is also the best in the MAC this season. He also added a time of 4:39.26 to take fifth in the 400-yard individual medley.
 
Senior Danielle Loiseau (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) led the women's squad, winning the 1,650-yard freestyle in 19:00.63, winning the race by more than 13 seconds, and taking second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.77.
 
Freshman Charlie Pletz (Robesonia, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) notched a time of 17:41.04 to take the 1,650-yard freestyle by five seconds, coming within 17 seconds of the school record in his first time in the event. Just about 45 minutes later, he finished 10th in the 100-yard freestyle (51.27). Junior Trevor Endler (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) also won the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing in 2:18.12.
 
To wrap up the meet for the Warriors, junior Josh Thomas (Fort Wayne, Ind./Concordia Lutheran) won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:03.75, nearly five seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. He also notched a season-best time in the 400-yard individual medley, posting a time of 4:33.32, to finish third.
 
Junior Felicia Sloyer (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) posted a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:03.13, while junior Tenninger Kellenbarger (Encitas, Calif./LaCosta Canyon) finished fourth in 1:08.02. Sloyer and senior Brigid Clark (Wyndmoor, Pa./Springfield) took third and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle, with Sloyer notching a 2:04.17 and Clark posting a 2:05.81.
 
Senior Alexia Follweiler (New Ringgold, Pa./Panther Valley) performed well in the butterfly, taking third in the 200-yard event in 2:21.01 and fourth in the 100 in 1:02.90.
 
Two Warriors also finished in the top six in the men's 100-yard breaststroke, with Endler finishing fourth in 1:03.28 and freshman Eric Ahlberg (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) finishing sixth in 1:05.89.
 
Junior Dan Apostolu (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (49.87) and ninth in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.68.
 
Freshman Nina McGahey (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:16.03 and took 13th in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:08.49.
 
Freshman Joe Szerencsits (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) took sixth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.04 and senior Aaron Slagle (Waynesburg, Ohio/Sandy Valley) finished seventh in 1:57.35. Slagle also took 14th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.91).
 
Senior T.J. Guminski (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) took eighth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.31 and 16th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.02). Ahlberg also took 14th in the 100-yard freestyle (51.68) and freshman Codie Malloy (South Montrose, Pa./Montrose Area) took 15th (51.68).
 
Sophomore Morgan Black (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) came in sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:16.65 and 11th in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:00.21. Clark added an eighth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle in 58.46. Sophomore Jess Wimmer (Souderton, Pa./Souderton Area) finished sixth in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:35.03, ninth in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:09.40 and 14th in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:08.49. Kellenbarger also took 16th in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 1:01.20.
 
The Warriors get back in the poll on Saturday, Dec. 6, when they host Messiah in Middle Atlantic Conference action at 1 p.m. in Lamade Gym Natatorium.
