MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – Senior Julia Antonelli (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) notched 13 points and eight rebounds and junior Ali Derr (New Columbia, Pa./Milton Area) added 10 points to lead the Lycoming College women's basketball team, but a fast start helped Messiah College post a 60-51 Commonwealth Conference win at Brubaker Auditorium on Wednesday night, Jan. 8.

Antonelli hit 6-of-10 shots from the field, moving within 15 points of becoming the ninth player in school history to reach 1,000 career points. Derr reached double figures for the sixth straight game, scoring 10 points and she also added four rebounds.

Junior Janelle Ziminski (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) added nine points and four rebounds and sophomore Chelsea Henderson (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) posted six points, a career-high eight rebounds and three steals for the Warriors (6-5 overall, 3-2 Commonwealth).

The Falcons (7-5 overall, 3-2 Commonwealth) jumped out on a 16-4 run through the game's first 10 minutes before the Warriors began to fight back, as Antonelli hit a layup to start a 14-6 run that brought the Warriors within four points after a jumper by Victoria Siebecker (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona) with 3:35 left. From there, the teams traded buckets, with Henderson notching a layup with 29 seconds left to give Messiah a 29-23 lead at halftime.

The Warriors stayed close for much of the first 10 minutes of the second half, with freshman Rachel Miller (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) hitting a free throw with 9:06 remaining in the half making it 42-38. However, Messiah responded with 10 straight points over the next three minutes to start a 14-2 run to take a 16-point lead. The Warriors couldn't work the lead back to single digits until Derr hit an old-fashioned three-point play with 40 seconds left.

Freshman Nicole Calella (Sandyston, N.J./Kittatinny Regional) posted seven points and sophomore Olivia Manges (York, Pa./West York) added three points, three assists and two steals.
