Box Score

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Holding Alvernia University to four points in the last eight minutes of the first half, the Lycoming College women's basketball team took over, rolling to a key 68-55 Commonwealth Conference win on Wednesday night, Jan. 29, at Dutch Burch Court at Lamade Gym.

Four Warriors finished in double figures, led by 21 points, 18 in the first half, and 15 rebounds by senior Julia Antonelli (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford). Three others reached double figures, as Lycoming shot a hot 48 percent from the field (28-of-59), including 63 percent in the first half (17-of-27). Sophomore Chelsea Henderson (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) posted 13 points, six rebounds and two steals, junior Ali Derr (New Columbia, Pa./Milton Area) notched 11 points, five rebounds and four blocks and freshman Nicole Calella (Sandyston, N.J./Kittatinny Regional) added 10 points, five assists and five rebounds.

Down 27-20 with 8:15 left in the first half, the Warriors (8-9 overall, 5-6 Commonwealth) took control of the first half, rolling on a 21-4 run to close out the half, with Antonelli starting the run with a layup. She gave the Warriors the lead with a nifty traditional 3-point play at the 6:45 mark of the half. Calella capped the run, hitting a free throw with 1:53 left in the half that gave Lycoming a 41-29 lead before an Alvernia layup sent the Crusaders into the half down by 10 points.

In the second half, the Crusaders (6-12 overall, 2-9 Commonwealth) cut the lead to seven points with 13:01 left, but a steal by Antonelli led to an easy fastbreak bucket by Henderson and after a Warrior miss, Henderson pulled down a rebound and seconds later, Calella found sophomore Victoria Siebecker (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleona), who delivered a 3-pointer to make it 54-42 with 11:24 left.

From there, the Warriors grew the lead to as many as 19 at 67-48 with 4:48 left before the Crusaders finished the game on a 7-1 run.

The Crusaders started the game hot from the field, with Tyra Roberts scoring eight points in the first nine minutes, helping the team to a 22-16 lead, but her second foul sent her to the bench with 8:48 left and just a minute later, the Warriors started their deciding run.

Siebecker finished with six points and two assists and junior Janelle Ziminski (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) added five points, four rebounds and three assists.

Roberts finished with 13 points and nine rebounds to lead the Crusaders and Chelsea Ebersole posted 12 points. Kaitlyn Yoh posted eight points, nine rebounds and five assists.

The Warriors get back in action on Saturday, Feb. 1, when they host Widener in another huge Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Dutch Burch Court at Lamade Gym. The women's game tips at 1 p.m. before the men play at 3 p.m.
