Warriors fall to Lions’ second-half surge

Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Kevin Anthony (Columbus, Ohio/Bridgton Academy) posted his second straight 20-point, 10-rebound game and senior Michael Rudy (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) moved within one rejection of the school's career blocked shots record, but a second-half surge helped Albright College take a 71-61 decision from the Lycoming College men's basketball team on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Dutch Burch Court at Lamade Gym.
 
The Warriors (7-8 overall, 3-6 Commonwealth) got 21 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks from Anthony, as he moved within nine points of the top 25 in school history and became the 11th player in school history to post four 100-rebound seasons.
 
Rudy posted 11 points, nine rebounds and four blocks, moving within one block of the school record of 142 held by Matt Stackhouse (2000-04).
 
Sophomore Eric Ishman (Jamaica, N.Y./Christ the King) posted nine points and junior Jourdan Wilson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) added five assists. Junior Malcolm Covington (Bronx, N.Y./Christ the King) added six points and five rebounds.
 
The two teams fought through eight lead changes in the first half, with neither team taking more than a four-point lead until Lycoming went on a 12-2 to take a 30-25 lead after a layup by Anthony with 2:28 left in the half. After an Albright layup, the Warriors scored the last three points of the half to take a 33-27 lead into the break.
 
In the second half, Albright (9-7 overall, 5-4 Commonwealth) pressed into the lead, but Lycoming kept responding, leading by three with 11:16 left after a fastbreak bucket by freshman Andy Abreu (Claridge, Pa./Penn-Trafford) made it 47-44, but Albright went on a 16-5 run to take a 60-52 lead eight minutes later. The Warriors closed within five with 1:51 left, but Albright closed the game on a 10-4 run.
 
Albright shot 43 percent in the second half while Lycoming struggled, shooting just 30 percent, helping the Lions to make their late run.
 
Kyle Jordan led the Lions with 22 points and 17 rebounds, while Sameen Swint added 16 points and eight rebounds and Evan Ward added 10 points and nine rebounds. Josh Marquez posted seven assists.
 
The Warriors head to Elizabethtown on Saturday, Jan. 25, for a 3 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game.
