Box Score

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – In a back-and-forth fifth set, the Lycoming College volleyball team got some unlikely kills, two from senior setter Katelyn McKillop (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) and one from junior libero Amber Seibel (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette), helping lead the team to a 3-2 (25-14, 22-25, 25-16, 16-25, 16-14) win over Albright College in Commonwealth Conference action at Lamade Gym on Tuesday night, Sept. 24.

After falling behind 5-2 in the third set, the Warriors got several big plays during a five point run, as junior Kristin Whitehead (Avon, Ohio/Avon) notched two aces and senior Shelby Gear (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) and freshman Tayler Whitman (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) added a block. The Lions fought back to tie the set at seven, but kills from Gear and freshman Lauren Fink (York, Pa./West York) put the Warriors (10-6 overall, 1-2 Commonwealth) back in control. Seibel followed with a dig that flew over the net and off the floor.

The Lions (5-9 overall, 1-3 Commonwealth) fought to tie the set at 11, but McKillop ended the run when she lifted a dig from Whitehead over the net and to the floor. With the score 13-12, she added another kill, this time setting the ball to a perfect spot in the right corner after freshman Kristine Jahn (Enola, Pa./Cumberland Valley) saved the point with a dig after hitting into the Albright block.

Albright warded off two match points, but kills from Jahn and Gear helped Lycoming wrap up the 16-14 fifth-set win.

The Warriors started the match with a 25-14 first-set win, as Seibel put the team in control with an 11-point service, dropping in four aces during the run, to give the team a 22-11 lead.

In the second set, Albright took a 15-11 lead before Lycoming came back to tie it at 22. However a kill by Maddy Greth started a run of three straight Albright points to end the set.

Lycoming dominated the third set, though, allowing Albright to hit .000, while breaking an 11-10 set open by finishing on a 14-6 run. Sophomore Bethany Richardson (York, Pa./West York) led the team with six kills in seven attempts.

The Lions responded in the fourth by hitting .286 and notching a 9-3 run to start the set, as they cruised the 25-16 win to set up the fourth set.

Richardson led the Warriors with 18 kills, three aces and two blocks, as she hit .302. Gear added 14 kills, seven digs, two blocks and five assists and Fink added eight kills and a team-high 20 digs.
