Warriors fall to Eagles

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A pair of Juniata goals in the first 10 minutes helped lift the team to a 4-1 win over the Lycoming College women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 21, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
 
The Warriors (1-6 overall) scored in the last 10 minutes  for the second straight game against an undefeated team, as sophomore Leah Handwerk (Hockessin, Del./Wilmington Friends School) dropped in her first career goal on a rebound of a shot, firing the ball into the left corner. Sophomore Megan Hubbard (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional) and freshman Olivia Mendler (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) each assisted on the play.
 
Juniata (7-0 overall) got on the board in the sixth minute, as Paula Pryor, who finished with two goals and one assist, fired a shot into the Warrior goalkeeper, but Alicia Snyder fired the rebound into the right corner.
 
An own goal came four minutes later before Pryor added two goals, one in each half, to give Juniata a 4-0 lead before Handwerk's goal.
 
Senior Caitlin Dougherty (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) stopped four shots in net for the Warriors and Haley Briggs also had four stops in the win for the Eagles.
 
Lycoming was aggressive throughout the game, taking nine shots, eight in the first half, while Juniata took just 11.
 
The Warriors get back on the field when they travel to FDU-Florham for a 1 p.m. game on Saturday, Sept. 28.
