Warriors sweep Mounties for fourth straight win

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Freshman Maggie Slawson (Armagh, Pa./United) and sophomore Bethany Richardson (York, Pa./West York) each notched 10 kills to lead the Lycoming College volleyball team to its fourth straight sweep, downing Mount Aloysius, 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-20), in non-conference action on Tuesday night, Sept. 17.
 
Richardson hit a solid .476 and added two blocks, freshman Lauren Fink (York, Pa./West York) added seven kills, six digs and three blocks and senior Shelby Gear (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) posted six kills, two blocks and hit .455. Gear, in the process, became the 10th player in school history to reach 800 career kills.
 
Senior Katelyn McKillop (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) notched 35 assists and six digs and juniors Amber Seibel (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) and Kristin Whitehead (Avon, Ohio/Avon) each added seven digs.
 
The Warriors (8-5 overall) took control of the first set, breaking open a 10-8 lead by posting a 9-3 run that featured four points off McKillop's serve. The Mounties (5-8 overall) closed within five points, but Whitehead served up four straight points to close out the 25-16 win.
 
Lycoming opened the second set with a 14-4 run, led by a run of three straight aces from freshman Kristine Jahn (Enola, Pa./Cumberland Valley), as the team went on to a 25-13 win.
 
In the final set, the Warriors jumped out to a 10-4 lead, as Gear posted a block before a kill to cap the run. The Mounties closed within three at 20-17, but the Warriors responded as Slawson posted a pair of kills during a four-point run by the Warriors that helped the team post the 25-20 win.
 
The Mounties were led by seven kills from Lindsey Mercer and six each from Jamie Snedden and Megan Ruddock. Jordan DeMasi added 13 assists and Lyndsey Hall posted seven digs. Ruddock also posted four blocks and two aces.
 
The Warriors get back in action on Saturday, Sept. 21, when they host Marymount and Moravian at a tri-match in Arlington, Va.
