WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior 
Matt McCaffer (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) became the 13
th player in school history to reach 40 goals in a season, as he led the Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team with his sixth hat trick of the year, but Lebanon Valley College scored with 4:41 left and held on for a critical 5-4 Commonwealth Conference victory as rain poured down at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Wednesday, April 24.
 
Tied at three entering the fourth quarter, Lebanon Valley (9-5 overall, 4-3 Commonwealth) took the lead three minutes into the quarter as Andrew Dennison fired it high into the net on a drive.
 
The Warriors (4-10 overall, 3-4 Commonwealth) tied the game less than 2:30 later, though, as they took advantage of the only Flying Dutchmen penalty of the game, with sophomore 
Sean Reilly (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post West) finding McCaffer in front of the net for his 40
th goal of the year.
 
However, Lebanon Valley was able to strike late, with Matt Aldridge scoring with 4:41 left. The Warriors got the ball back with 1:55 left and fired four shots on net in the last 67 seconds, but last second shot was blocked away by a Dutchmen defender.
 
 Lycoming jumped out to a 3-1 lead, with sophomore 
Steve Troup (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) scoring with 10:23 left in the opening period. After Lebanon Valley tied the game two minutes later, McCaffer dented the twine twice in the next 13 minutes. However, Lebanon Valley struck twice in 12 seconds with five minutes left in the half to tie it, setting up the second half dramatics.
 
McCaffer finished with three goals and three ground balls and Reilly and senior 
Tom Lurie (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) adding an assist. Freshman 
Michael Wagner (Pasadena, Md./St. Mary’s) and sophomore 
Thomas Hanson (Tucson, Ariz./Catalina Foothills) led the defense with four ground balls and a caused turnover each.
 
Five difference Lebanon Valley players scored, with Matt Aldridge leading the team with a goal and assist. Scott Sutton led the team with seven ground balls and Ryan Lanigan posted five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
 
In net, sophomore 
Alex Wylly (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) stopped 10 shots for the Warriors and Mike Moll made nine saves to earn the win for the Dutchmen.
 
The Warriors wrap up the season on Saturday, April 27, when they travel to new Commonwealth Conference foe, No. 4 Stevenson, for a 7 p.m. game.
