Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Highlighting a first-game slugfest, senior Janelle Poorman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle) became the first player in school history to homer twice in a game and in the second game, senior Holly Lansberry (Curwensville, Pa./Curwensville Area) tossed a complete game to lead the Lycoming College on Sunday, April 21, as Lycoming fell to Commonwealth Conference foe Stevenson University, 14-9, in the first game before rebounding with a 5-2 win in the nightcap.

On Senior Day, the Warriors (14-18 overall, 3-13 Commonwealth) were once again paced by the six-member senior class, led by Poorman’s record-breaking performance, as her second homer in the first game also tied the school record for homers in a season at five held by four others.

A four-run first inning was all the help Lansberry (7-6) needed in the second game, as she allowed eight hits and two runs in a solid complete game outing. She struck out two.

After Stevenson used a pair of singles to score a run in the first inning, the Warriors responded, as Stevenson led off with a walk. Senior Amy Cline (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) followed with an RBI double to center field, tying the game. After a flyout, Cline took third on a throwing error and Poorman reached first on a walk. Freshman Ashley Witmer (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) followed with a perfect suicide squeeze, reaching on the bunt single. Sophomore Caroline Lapano (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) scored Poorman with a double down the line and Witmer scored on a single by freshman Kristi Weaver (Milton, Pa./Milton Area).

The Mustangs (16-18 overall, 7-9 Commonwealth) continued to threaten, scoring a run in the third to cut into the lead, but Lansberry left six runners stranded in the first four innings. The Warriors also left six stranded in the first five innings.

Finally, in the sixth, freshman Dominique Thomas (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) reached on a single through the left side and then took second on a fielder’s choice bunt by senior Allyson Marianelli (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge). A sac bunt moved the runners over and an error helped load the bases before senior Taylor Lesser (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) lofted a sac fly to center.

Meanwhile, Lansberry, with the help of solid defense retired her last nine batters faced. In the sixth, she received the benefit of a pair of diving catches, one from center fielder Cline and one from senior right fielder Bethany Garnand (Hagerstown, Md./Smithsburg).

Lapano and Weaver each led the Warriors with two hits and a RBI. Stephanie Ayres went 2-for-3 with two runs to lead the Mustangs.

Stephanie Shupe (3-4) took the loss for the Mustangs, allowing four hits, two walks and four runs in one inning.

In the first game, Stevenson used a nine-run third inning to spoil Poorman’s two-homer effort as it held on for a 14-9 win.

After Stevenson scored a run in the second inning, the Warriors responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-1 lead. Poorman led off with her first homer a bomb to left field and Lapano followed with single and then pinch-running freshman Chelsey Poorman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) scored when Witmer reached on an error. Witmer scored on a sac fly by Weaver. Garnand followed by walking and Marianelli singled to left before Lansberry walked to load the bases. Cline delivered a sac fly to score Garnand.

However, Stevenson scored nine runs on five hits and two errors to take a 10-4 lead in the top of the third. Lycoming fought back with two runs in the bottom of the inning, as Poorman homered again and sophomore Nikki Marianelli (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge) was hit by a pitch. After a pair of outs, she scored on an error.

Stevenson added single runs in the next two innings to take a 12-6 lead, but Lycoming once again fought back in the fifth. Weaver led off with a single and after a strikeout and a fielder’s choice, Lansberry delivered a single, setting up a triple to right center by Cline. Lesser followed by blasting a double to left field, making it 12-9.

The Mustangs rounded out the scoring, though, with two seventh-inning runs, while the Warriors left three runners stranded in the last two frames.

Poorman led the Warriors, going 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI and Allyson Marianelli added two hits, a run and RBI. Cline added three RBI.

Kristen Mueller led the Mustangs, going 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI and Lindsay Kuczak went 3-for-5 with a run and RBI. Molly Hoyt also added two hits, two RBI and two runs and Courtney Cook notched two hits and two RBI.

Lapano (5-10) took the loss for Lycoming, allowing four hits and three earned runs in 2 1/3 innings. She walked two and struck out two. Hoyt (6-2) earned the win in relief, allowing four hits and three runs in 4 1/3 innings. She walked two and struck out three.
