WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Freshman Mike Cooper (Riva, Md./Archbishop Spalding) posted four goals and an assist and sophomore Sean Reilly (Corning, N.Y./Corning Painted Post West) notched a goal and three assists to lead the Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team to an 11-5 Commonwealth Conference win over Hood at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Saturday, April 20.
 
Reilly’s three assists helped him become the ninth player in school history to reach 50 career assists. He has 31 this season after notching 19 as a freshman.
 
The win moved the Warriors to 4-9 overall and 3-3 in the Commonwealth, giving them a hold of the fifth and final conference playoff spot with two games remaining, making Wednesday, April 23’s clash  with fourth-place Lebanon Valley at the Shangraw Athletic Complex at 4 p.m. even more critical.
 
Hood fell to 3-12 overall and 0-6 in the Commonwealth.
 
The Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead with 12:19 left, as Cooper scored on a give from junior Matt McCaffer (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) before McCaffer found the back of the net 33 seconds later.
 
Hood scored late in the first half on a man-up goal, but Lycoming got the next two goals, with Reilly and freshman Chris McNally (Summit, N.J./Summit) each scored early in the second quarter. After a Hood goal made it 4-2, the Warriors added another pair of goals, with McNally and Cooper scoring, but Hood cut the deficit to three at the break with a goal with 1:56 left.
 
In the third quarter, Lycoming expanded the lead to five goals, as McCaffer and senior Tom Lurie (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) dented the twine. Hood rallied early in the fourth with a pair of goals to make it 8-5, but Lycoming ended the threat when Cooper scored with 6:07 left and senior Matt Doherty (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) followed by winning the faceoff and running the field before firing a shot into the upper left corner just seven seconds later. Another goal by Cooper rounded out the scoring with 2:05 left.
 
Lycoming held a 36-21 advantage in shots and posted 38 ground balls and converted 20-of-23 clears while forcing Hood into nine failed clears.
 
Lurie posted six ground balls and a career-high five caused turnovers and Doherty posted seven ground balls, becoming the 18^th player in school history to reach 150 career ground balls in the game. McCaffer posted two goals and an assist and McNally added two goals.
 
Alex Engler led the Blazers with three goals and an assist and Zachary Speights added a goal and two assists. Randolph Clark won 10 face offs and added 11 ground balls and Domenic Cetrone posted four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
 
In net, sophomore Alex Wylly (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) made eight stops in 57 minutes before junior Sean Brown (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) made one stop in the last three minutes for the Warriors. Joseph McCulloh notched 14 saves for the Blazers.
