WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lightning and rain from a strong storm was able to throw a wrench into the Lycoming College softball team’s plans for a win on Wednesday afternoon, April 10, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex, as the storm washed away a 4-2 Lycoming lead in the top of the fourth inning of the first game of a planned doubleheader.
The games will not be made up.
After Misericordia scored single runs in the second and third inning, the Warriors rallied in the bottom of the inning, with senior
Amy Cline (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) walking and senior
Taylor Lesser (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) following with a single. After a sac bunt, freshman
Ashley Witmer (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) followed with another sac bunt and Cline slid under the tag at home and knocked the ball loose to make it 2-1. After Witmer stole second, sophomore
Caroline Lapano (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) drilled a double over the left fielder’s head to score two more runs. Senior
Holly Lansberry (Curwensville, Pa./Curwensville) later added an RBI single to left with two outs to round out the scoring in the inning.
However, the lightning came with one out in the fourth and didn’t let up before the rains came.
The Warriors (10-12 overall) get back on the field on Saturday, April 13, when they host Lebanon Valley in a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at 1 p.m.
