WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Tom Lurie (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) posted two goals and two assists and freshman Mike Cooper (Riva, Md./Archbishop Spalding) added a hat trick, but the Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team fell to Ithaca College, 11-7, in non-conference action at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Wednesday, March 6.
 
The Warriors (1-4 overall) rallied with the last three goals of the game and outscored the Bombers (1-0 overall), 5-4, in the second half, but the Bombers built up a 7-2, lead in the first half to earn the win.
 
Lycoming got on the board in the fourth minute of the game with Lurie finding sophomore Sean Reilly (Corning, N.Y./Corning Painted Post West) for a goal to cut into an early 2-0 Ithaca lead. The Bombers scored the next two goals, but Cooper drew Lycoming within two at the 12:06 mark of the second half. However, the Bombers scored the next five goals to take a 902 lead with 11:12 left in the third quarter.
 
Lycoming rallied towards the end of the third quarter, though, as junior Stephen Campaniollo (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) found Lurie for his first goal of the game. In the first minute of the fourth quarter, Lurie struck again with a diving shot to make it 10-4. Ithaca scored the next two goals, but Lycoming closed the game strong, with Cooper scoring twice, his last coming with 35 seconds left, before senior Matt Doherty (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) found the back of the net 12 seconds later to round out the scoring.
 
Lycoming, which was outshot 51-24 in the game, posted a 20-15 advantage in ground balls in the second half and won 8-of-11 faceoffs in the second half after winning just 3-of-10 in the first.
 
Doherty won 10-of-18 faceoffs and added 10 groundballs. Freshman Michael Wagner (Pasadena, Md./St. Mary’s) added three groundballs.
 
Jake Long and Connor Lowe led the Bombers with three goals each and Joe Perkins added a goal and two assists. James Manilla also added two assists. Brandon Henne won 7-of-11 faceoffs and Jimmy Ryan led the defense with five groundballs and two caused turnovers. Adam Wacenske added three caused turnovers.
 
In net, sophomore Alex Wylly (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) stopped 17 shots for the Warriors and Scott Sidnam stopped eight shots for the Bombers to earn the win.
 
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, March 9, when they head to Malvern Prep in Malvern, Pa., to face Scranton in a non-conference clash at 2 p.m.
