Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Holly Lansberry (Curwensville, Pa./Curwensville Area) tossed the 10th no-hitter in the history of the Lycoming College softball program in the first game, and in the second game, the Warriors scored 22 runs, the most in seven years, to roll to a sweep of Penn College, 12-0 and 22-2, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Tuesday afternoon, March 26.

Lansberry (3-1) dominated the first game in the circle, striking out eight and walking three as she fired her sixth career shutout and her first no-hitter. Only one Penn College runner reached second base and Lansberry faced just two batters over the minimum in the five-inning effort.

It was the second straight year the Warriors (7-5 overall) tossed a no-hitter, as Brie Braga and sophomore Caroline Lapano (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) combined for a perfect game against Principia in 2012.

The Warrior offense got going with a five-run second inning, highlighted by an RBI triple to right-center by freshman Ashley Witmer (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) and a three-run homer from sophomore Hannah Smith (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area). In the third, Lycoming added four more runs on the strength of four hits, a walk and two errors.

The Warriors added three more runs in the fourth inning to round out the scoring, as freshman Dominique Thomas (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) drilled a double with the bases loaded to drive in all three runners.

Lansberry also went 2-for-3 with a run at the plate. Senior Janelle Poorman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) went 2-for-3 with a RBI and both Smith and senior Allyson Marianelli (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge Area) added two hits and two RBI. Smith scored three times and Marianelli scored twice.

Kimberly Walter took the loss for the Wildcats (0-3 overall), allowing 13 hits and 10 earned runs in four innings. She struck out three.

In the second game, the Warriors kept the hot offense going, scoring in each inning and crossing the 20-run barrier for just the fourth time in school history as they picked up the sweep of the Wildcats (2-8 overall), 22-2.

The Warriors got on the board in the first inning as Poorman drove in a run with a two-out double. In the second, the Warriors added seven runs, with senior Amy Cline (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) highlighting the inning with a grand slam, her third homer of the year.

The Wildcats scrapped together four singles in the third inning to score two runs, but Lycoming scored 14 runs in their final two at bats, including a 10-run fourth to put the game away.

Thomas highlighted the fourth, as she hit a homer to center field after entering the inning as a pinch-runner.

Cline led the Warriors by going 2-for-3 with three runs and four RBI and senior Taylor Lesser (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) went 3-for-5 with four runs scored. Freshman Ashley Burger (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville Area) added a 3-for-3 effort at the plate, posting a run and two RBI. Poorman also went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI, as Lycoming pounded out 19 hits in the game.

Lapano (2-4) earned the win, allowing five hits and two runs in four innings. She struck out two. Lacy Lose (2-3) took the loss for Penn College, allowing 12 hits and five earned ruhns in 3 1/3 innings.

The Warriors get back in action on Thursday, March 28, when they host Messiah in a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at the Shangraw Athletic Complex at 3 p.m.
