GLENSIDE, Pa. – Sophomore
Kat Andriani (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) used career-highs of 10 points and six blocks to give the Lycoming College women’s basketball team a lift en route to a 67-49 win over Arcadia University at Alumni Gymnasium on Saturday, Feb. 9, helping the Warriors stay in a tie for the fifth-and-final Commonwealth Conference playoff spot.
With the win, the Warriors (7-15 overall, 7-9 Commonwealth) are within a win of clinching their first playoff berth since 2000. The win, though, must come in Tuesday, Feb. 12’s 6 p.m. game against Albright (11-12 overall, 7-9 Commonwealth), who notched a 75-70 win over Stevenson on Saturday.
Andriani, who posted four field goals and two free throws to reach her career-high of 10 points, was particularly effective on the defensive end, blocking six shots (11 percent of Arcadia’s 54) and helping Lycoming hold the Knights (10-13 overall, 3-13 Commonwealth) to 32 percent (17-for-54) from the floor. The six blocks are tied for the third-most in school history.
Freshman
Olivia Manges (York, Pa./West York) led the Warriors with 17 points, hitting two 3-pointers, and the surging rookie also added four steals. She is averaging 13.8 points over the last five games.
Junior
Julia Antonelli (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) posted her seventh double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds, adding three assists and two steals. She moved within a rebound of becoming the ninth player in school history to reach 500 in a career.
The Warriors jumped out with an 11-3 lead in the first 4:24 of the game, as Manges scored five points on the run, but the Knights responded with a 15-4 run to take an 18-15 lead with 9:41 left in the opening half. Lycoming responded with eighth straight points, though, and Manges hit her second 3-pointer of the half to give the Warriors’ the lead for good during the run.
Late in the half, Lycoming got the lead to 11 after a jumper by Antonelli capped a 15-1 run, but Arcadia was able to cut the lead to nine points at the break with a pair of free throws.
Arcadia got within seven points with 17:35 left in the second half, but couldn’t get any closer and a 20-5 run midway through the second half gave Lycoming a commanding 61-37 lead with 7:11 left after a jumper by Manges. Arcadia didn’t get back within 20 points until the final 1:42 of the game.
Senior
Rachael Scheller (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) posted six points, three assists and three steals for Lycoming, as she finished the game with 71 steals, one shy of fourth in the school record book. Sophomore
Janelle Ziminski (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) added six points, three rebounds and two steals. The trio of freshman

Arcadia was led by 11 points and 12 rebounds from Addy Crenny. Dominique Hassinger added 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Valerie DiMuro posted five points, five rebounds and four assists and Victoria Roukas notched five points and six rebounds. Morgan Wensley posted eight points and four rebounds.
