WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - With the Lycoming College men’s basketball team heading to Albright College to open its run in the 2013 Commonwealth Conference playoffs on Wednesday night, Feb. 20, it may seem a little bit like deja vu for the Warriors and that’s a good thing. After all, in 2012, the team also entered the playoffs as the No. 3 seed when it went to Widener, who, like Albright, it had never beaten in the postseason, and pulled off a 79-77 overtime win.
The Warriors (16-9 overall) have grown accustomed to close games, as their last six games have been decided by 10 points or less, including a three-point loss to Albright on Feb. 20.
The Lions (20-5 overall) reached 20 wins with a 71-61 win over Elizabethtown on Saturday, Feb. 23. Senior Dave Singleton leads the team, as he posted 19 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists in the win over Lycoming.
Warrior Notes
• Senior
Jerald Williams leads the NCAA Division III in assists (10.0) and assist-turnover ratio (3.47). He is also third in steals (3.48).
• Williams, with his second of four steals against Hood, broke his own school record of 84 thefts set in 2009-10 as a freshman.
• With 250 assists, Williams needs nine more to reach the top 10 in the NCAA Division III’s single-season history.
• With 54 blocks, junior
Michael Rudy needs one more to tie Matt Stackhouse (2002-03) for the school record of 55 in a season. He is 25th in the nation in the category and leads the Commonwealth at 2.16 rejections per game.
• Senior
Anthony Martin needs 18 more points to become the 21st player in school history to score 450 in a season and the first since Jonathan Pribble in 2005-06.
• Lycoming is 3-0 in the Commonwealth Conference semifinals since joining the league in 2008.
