Box Score

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Kevin Anthony (Columbus, Ohio/Bridgton Academy) notched 26 points and junior Pat Dougher (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) added a career-high 23 to lead a hot-shooting Lycoming College men's basketball team to a 101-87 win over Elizabethtown College in both teams' Commonwealth Conference opener on Tuesday night, Nov. 26, at Dutch Burch Court at Lamade Gym.

The Warriors (3-1 overall, 1-0 Commonwealth) shot an impossibly hot 66 percent (31-for-47) from the field and added 27 free throws and an 80 percent (12-of-15) clip from 3-point range to stay out of range of a similarly hot-shooting Blue Jays (2-3 overall, 0-1 Commonwealth). The Blue Jays shot 50 percent from the field (32-of-64) and from three (10-of-20), but got to the line just 21 times.

Anthony hit 9-of-10 from the field and added 8-of-11 at the free throw line for his 26 points, giving him 935 in his career. He also added five rebounds and three steals in the game. Dougher posted 23 points, hitting a career-high 7-of-9 from three and also notching two free throws. The seven 3-pointers are ninth-most in school history.

In addition, senior Justin Miller (Agawam, Mass./Bridgton Academy) added 14 points, six rebounds and two blocks and junior Malcolm Covington (Bronx, N.Y./Christ the King) posted 10 points and nine assists.

Lycoming dominated on the fast break, posting 24 points in transition, also added 24 points off turnover, while also heating up throughout the game, shooting 73 percent (16-of-22) from the field in the second half, also managing five offensive rebounds on their six missed shots in the period.

After the two teams fought out to a 13-12 game with 14:29 left, the Warriors took the lead when senior Michael Rudy (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) hit a 3-pointer on a dish from Anthony and they never relinquished it, as Rudy picked up a loose ball on Elizabethtown's next possession and Anthony finished the play with a posterizing dunk, giving Lycoming an 18-13 lead an igniting a 13-3 run.

The Blue Jays cut the lead to two points with 7:09 left after a layup by Lee Evkert, but after a pair of turnovers, Dougher canned a three on a give by Covington with 5:38 left and the Warriors closed the half with a 13-6 run over the final 5:01 of the half to take a 46-34 lead into the break.

The Warriors led by as many as 17 early in the second half, but the Blue Jays fought back into the game, closing within three points with 12:09 left thanks to a 22-8 run that made it 65-62. However, Miller got his own putback and put it home to ignite a seven-point run for Lycoming, capped by a three from Rudy, helping the Warriors retake a 10-point lead.

Elizabethtown made one more run, closing within seven with 4:17 left, but Miller scored three straight before another fastbreak dunk by Anthony helped the Warriors get a 12-point lead with 3:04 left. The Blue Jays never closed back within single digits.

Will Schlosser finished with 24 points, hitting five 3-pointers, and Lee Eckert notched 20 points and eight rebounds. Phil Wenger posted 12 points, five assists and five steals and Andrew Mantz also posted 12 points and four rebounds.

The Warriors get back on the court on Sunday, Dec. 1, when they face Rutgers-Camden in a non-conference game at Dutch Burch Court at Lamade Gym at 1 p.m.
