WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Down 13-7 in the third set, the Lycoming College volleyball team turned the match over to sophomore
Bethany Richardson (York, Pa./West York). The sophomore middle hitter delivered eight kills in the stanza, lifting the Warriors to a four-point win to seal a 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-21) victory over Widener University in a critical Commonwealth Conference match at Lamade Gym on Tuesday night, Oct. 8.

Richardson finished with a career-high 18 kills in a three-set match, hitting .400, and adding three aces and three digs to post 21 points.

Down by seven in the third set, Richardson provided six kills and an ace during a 12-2 run that helped give the Warriors (17-7 overall, 3-2 Commonwealth) a 19-15 lead. From there, the team was able to sideout en route to the 25-21 win.

In the second set, Richardson began to get hot, posting six kills to go with four from fellow middle, junior
Kylee Sutton (Wysox, Pa./Towanda Area). The Warriors fell behind, 8-4, in that set before going on a 7-1 run that was finished on a kill by Sutton. From there, the Pride (13-10 overall, 2-4 Commonwealth) never tied it again and the Warriors were able to separate by scoring the last two points in the set.

In the first set, the Warriors used the serve of Richardson to the tune of eight straight points to take a 10-1 lead. The Pride closed within two points three points, but each time, the Warriors responded, with Richardson knocking down two straight kills to help close out the set after the Pride had made the score, 22-20.

Senior
Shelby Gear (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) posted eight kills, six digs and two aces and both freshmen
Lauren Fink (York, Pa./West York) and
Maggie Slawson (Armagh, Pa./United) notched six kills. Senior
Katelyn McKillop (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) notched 41 assists, nine kills and three aces and junior
Kristin Whitehead (Avon, Ohio/Avon) led the team with 10 digs. Junior
Amber Seibel (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) notched seven digs and Fink added six.

Widener was led by eight kills by Jessica Dembeck and six from Kaitlin Schnalzer. Sabrina Barbieri posted 21 assists and Brooke Ruditys notched 11 digs. Victoria Miller also posted eight digs and Veronica Vizzard posted five blocks.

The Warriors get back on the court with Senior Day on Thursday, Oct. 10, when they face Lancaster Bible College at 7 p.m. Before the match, the Warriors will honor the group of three seniors, Gear, McKillop and
Cortney Tice (Canton, Pa./Canton).
