WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior
Katelyn McKillop (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) established a Commonwealth Conference record by serving for 15 straight points in the first set of the Lycoming College volleyball team's 3-0 (25-3, 25-20, 25-11) win over Hood in a conference tri-match at Lamade Gym. In the tri-match finale, the Warriors fell, 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-16), to 20
th-ranked Stevenson.
McKillop's 15 points of service helped Lycoming (19-8 overall, 4-3 Commonwealth) jump out to a 16-0 lead in the first set, as she dropped in five aces during the run. It is the second-longest hold of service since the NCAA went to the 25-point scoring format in 2008, behind only a 20-point service from Lauren Halverson of Mount St. Mary (N.Y.) in 2009. The service was the longest in the Commonwealth Conference since changing to the 25-point format, but is the second-longest in conference history, behind Mary Kate Cordisco's rally-scoring record of 25 straight serves against Washington College in 2003, when each set was plated to 30.
The Warriors hit .529 in the first set while cruising to the set win, the largest margin of victory in a set since NCAA volleyball moved to the rally scoring format in 2001.
In the second set, the Warriors had to come back from deficits of 13-7 and 17-13, but freshman
Lauren Fink (York, Pa./West York) served up six straight points to put Lycoming en route to a 25-20 win. In the third set, Lycoming used a 19-5 run to close the match and move one step closer to clinching a third straight slot in the Commonwealth Conference playoffs.
Sophomore
Bethany Richardson (York, Pa./West York) posted nine kills to lead the Warriors, as she hit .692 and added a block. Senior
Shelby Gear (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) added nine kills, hitting .429, to go with four aces and two blocks, becoming the ninth player in school history to reach 900 career kills in the process.
Fink finished with seven kills, 12 digs and two blocks and junior
Amber Seibel (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) added 13 digs. McKillop finished with 30 assists, five aces and two blocks.
Addie Roop led the Blazers (4-15 overall, 1-4 Commonwealth) with eight kills and four aces and Kathryn Jones posted nine assists and two blocks. Keesha Fields added 10 digs.
In the second match, Stevenson (27-1 overall, 7-0 Commonwealth) hit .358 and added eight aces to cruise to the win, while Lycoming struggled with 22 attack errors against the nationally-ranked club.
Richardson led the Warriors with seven kills and freshman
Kristine Jahn (Enola, Pa./Cumberland Valley) added five. McKillop posted 17 assists and Seibel added eight digs.
Christine Isenberg led the Mustangs with 10 kills and six digs and Imani Hudson posted nine kills and three blocks. Megan Miller notched seven blocks and Jessica Geiselman posted eight digs, two aces and 34 assists. Samantha Perillo added four aces.
The Warriors get back on the court on Wednesday, Oct. 6, when they head to another team undefeated in Commonwealth Conference action in Lebanon Valley. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
