Warriors fall to Pride

CHESTER, Pa. – Four Lycoming College freshmen accounted for 32 of the team’s 42 points, led by a career-high 11 from Olivia Manges (York, Pa./West York), but a senior-laden Widener team took was able to overpower the Warriors, 76-42, in Commonwealth Conference action on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 5, at the Schwartz Athletic Center.
 
Manges led a quartet of Warrior rookies that accounted for 76 percent of the team’s scoring as she put in a career-high 11 points and added two rebounds. Taylor Ford (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) added eight points and four rebounds, Chelsea Henderson (Yonkers, N.Y./Yonkers) added seven points and five rebounds and Shanley Harlacker (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion Area) added six points, hitting two 3-pointers, and added three rebounds. Fellow freshman Shannon Wheeler (Cranford, N.J./Linden) added three assists and two rebounds for the Warriors (2-10 overall, 2-4 Commonwealth).
 
Lycoming hit a pair of 3-pointers in the opening moments of the game to stay with Widener, as the trey by senior Rachael Scheller (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) was matched by one by Widener’s Jennifer Egee with 13:30 left in the half.
 
The Pride took off from there, though, going on a 22-2 run over the next eight minutes before a fastbreak layup by Manges ended the run. Still, the Pride led by as many as 22 in the half before the Warriors scored the final six points of the half, with the last four coming from Manges, as she hit a trey with seven seconds left to make it 39-23 at the break.
 
Lycoming closed within 14 points in the first four minutes of the second half, as Ford hit a free throw, but Widener responded with seven straight points and the Warriors couldn’t get closer than 19 points the rest of the way.
 
Junior Julia Antonelli (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) posted four points and five rebounds for Lycoming.
 
Widener was led by 20 points, five 3-pointers, and eight rebounds from Egee. Kate Dellinger added 15 points and 10 rebounds and Ally Ferrucci added six assists and four steals. Lil Carney also posted four thefts for the Pride.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Wednesday, Jan. 9, when they face 19th-ranked Lebanon Valley in Commonwealth Conference action at 6 p.m.
