Warriors look to breakthrough with big win against the Pride

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Lycoming College women’s basketball team will head into the toughest two-game stretch of its season on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 5, traveling to Widener before hosting No. 19 Lebanon Valley on Wednesday.

The Warriors (2-9 overall, 2-3 Commonwealth) are coming off a narrow 71-66 loss at King’s, a 2012 NCAA Sweet 16 team. The Warriors were led by their posts in the game, as junior Julia Antonelli posted 16 points and sophomore Ali Derr added a season-high 15.

The Pride (9-3 overall, 4-1 Commonwealth) are in a tie with nationally-ranked Lebanon Valley for second-place in the conference, but were handed a 77-34 loss at No. 22 Montclair State on Dec. 30. Junior Jennifer Egee led te Pride with 12 points and seven rebounds and junior  Joanna Persiano added eight points.

Warrior Notes
• Junior Julia Antonelli is averaging 16.8 points and 9.8 rebounds over the last six games. She is shooting 65 percent from the floor in that time.

• Senior Rachael Scheller needs four more assists to become the fifth player in school history to reach 250 in a career.

• With 186 career steals, Scheller needs six more thefts to pass Jessica Zerbee (2006-10) for third in the school’s career history.

• Sophomore Ali Derr needs 12 more points to reach 200 in her career.

• Freshman Shannon Wheeler needs six points to reach 100 in her career.

• Sophomore Janelle Ziminski needs one more steal to reach 50 in her career.

• The Warriors’ bench is outscoring opponents by an average of 25.7-14.9.

• Eleven Warriors have started games this season and no one has started all 11 games.
