Box Score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – It was the last two of freshman Olivia Manges’ career-high 20 points that had the biggest impact, as she took the last of senior Rachael Scheller’s six steals in for a fastbreak layup to help seal a 57-55 Commonwealth Conference overtime win for the Lycoming College women’s basketball team on the road at Stevenson on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 12.

Manges (York, Pa./West York) finished off the steal from Scheller (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) with 1:28 left to give Lycoming a 56-53 lead. The Mustangs answered with a  layup to make it a one-point game with 1:06 left, but two turnovers in the final minute and a free throw from senior Leeann Randall (Audobon, Pa./Methacton) rounded out the scoring.

The Warriors (3-11 overall, 3-5 Commonwealth) took the lead for the last time in overtime when sophomore Janelle Ziminski (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) pulled down a rebound and found Scheller on the break for a layup, taking a 54-52 lead with 1:52 left.

The teams fought through five ties and nine lead changes in the contest, with neither team holding a lead of larger than six points. The Mustangs (5-6 overall, 2-6 MAC) took a 6-0 lead in the first 2:18 before the Warriors fought back to tie it for the first time at 16 with 8:07 left in the half when Ziminski canned a 3-pointer to start a nine-point run that gave Lycoming a six point lead, 22-16, with 4:27 left in the half. However, the Mustangs came back to close the half on a 9-2 run to take a 25-24 lead into the break.

The teams stayed within one possession for much of the second half before the Warriors capitalized on a six-minute stretch with just four points scored, all by Scheller to give Lycoming a 41-36 lead with 4:00 left. A 3-pointer by Sam Murray with 1:27 left gave Stevenson a 46-44 lead, but sophomore Kat Andriani (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) responded with a fastbreak layup to tie the game.

The Warriors added three more points on free throws before Stephanie Martinez hit a trey with two seconds left to send the game into overtime tied at 49.

Lycoming got 42 points off the bench, led by Manges’ 20. The freshman also added four rebounds. Scheller and junior Julia Antonelli (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) each posted seven points and freshman Taylor Ford (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) added five points.
