Warriors post fourth shutout in six games in tie with Crusaders

Box Score

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – For the first time since 2008, the Lycoming College women’s soccer team tied its Commonwealth Conference opener, as senior Jennifer Basch (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) made 10 saves in net to help the Warriors to their fourth shutout in six matches, tying Alvernia, 0-0, in double overtime on Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.

The Warriors (1-6-3 overall, 0-0-1 Commonwealth) pushed pace for much of the opening portion of the game, taking six shots in the first half to five by the Crusaders (6-3-2 overall, 0-0-1 Commonwealth). The aggressive style didn’t wane, although the Crusaders finished with a 16-13 advantage in shots.

Basch stopped three shots in the first half before making four in the second and three in the two 10-minute overtime periods. Alvernia’s Jamie Dearie made six stops, including three in overtime.

The Warriors best scoring chances came in the first half when sophomore Emily Truett (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) hit the post in the 23rd minute and in the 91st minute when junior Spencer Larson (Edgewater, Md./South River) nearly fired a ball in the net, but it was cleared off the line by Alvernia’s Laura Mauroschadt.

The tie against Alvernia is the Warriors' second 0-0 tie since joining the Commonwealth Conference in 2008. The other was also against Alvernia in 2010.

The Warriors get back on the field on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Albright for a Commonwealth Conference match. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
