Lycoming sweeps tri-match, beating Penn College, Baptist Bible

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Jackie Oliva (Barnesville, Pa./Mahanoy Area) posted 20 kills and six blocks and junior Katelyn McKillop (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) added a pair of double-doubles to help lead the Lycoming College volleyball team to a season-opening tri-match sweep at Bardo Gym, as the Warriors notched a 3-0 win over Penn College and a 3-1 win over Baptist Bible on Saturday, Sept. 1.
 
In the first match, the Warriors (2-0 overall) overcame a tough first set and went on to sweep Penn College, 27-25, 25-17, 25-21, as sophomore Kylee Sutton (Wysox, Pa./Towanda Area) led the team with 10 kills in the match.
 
McKillop posted 36 assists and 11 digs for a season-opening double-double and freshman Bethany Richardson (York, Pa./West York Area) kicked off her career with nine kills. Oliva added eight kills and sophomore Amber Seibel (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) notched four kills and 20 digs. Junior Shelby Gear (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) posted four kills and two solo blocks and sophomore Kristin Whitehead (Avon, Ohio/Avon) added 11 digs.
 
Tara Powell and Melissa Leake each had seven kills to lead the Wildcats (1-1 overall), while Caitlyn Curley posted 12 assists and nine digs and Morgan Moberg posted 10 helpers. Gabby George added 16 digs and Tara Powell also added 13. Kelly Hebert posted three blocks.
 
Against the Defenders, the Warriors overcame a heartbreaking 30-28 loss in the first set to dominate win the next three sets and take a 3-1 (28-30, 25-18, 25-21, 25-16) win. Oliva led the Warriors with 12 kills and five blocks and McKillop added 31 assists and 21 digs.
 
Seibel posted six kills and 17 digs and Whitehead posted 23 digs for the Warriors. Richardson notched six kills and two blocks and both Gear and Sutton added five kills.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Wednesday, Sept. 5 when they host preseason favorite Messiah in a 7 p.m. Commonwealth Conference match at Lamade Gym.
