Lansberry continues hitting streak but Warriors drop pair to Lions

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior Holly Lansberry (Curwensville, Pa./Curwensville Area) extended her hitting streak to 12 games, the longest for a Lycoming College softball player in the 21st century, but the Warriors lost a pair of heartbreaking Commonwealth Conference games to Albright, 3-2 and 7-5 in eight innings, on Sunday, April 15, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.

Lansberry went 3-for-9 with a run and a double in the pair of games, as she reached base six times in the twinbill. She posted one hit in the first game and two in the second.

Junior Brie Braga (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) tied the second game with a  two-out RBI single to right field in the seventh inning, but Albright scored two in the top of the eighth to sneak away with a 7-5 win and the sweep.

In a flip-flop-game that saw three lead changes, the Warriors (7-18 overall, 2-8 Commonwealth) tied the game in the seventh, as junior Taylor Lesser (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) led off the game by getting hit by a pitch. After a sac bunt and a pop out, freshman Kristin Steiner (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) drilled a single to left field to move Lesser to third, where she scored on Braga’s hit.

The Lions (6-14-1 overall, 2-8 Commonwealth) got back-to-back RBI doubles from Becky Crandall and Natalie Carlucci in the eighth to seal the win, though.

Down 3-1 in the fifth inning, the Warriors rallied when Lansberry hit a one-out double down the left field line. Junior Amy Cline (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) followed with a triple down the right field line. After a fly out, freshman Caroline Lapano (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity) delivered a single into left center to score Cline. After taking second on a fielding error, she scored on a single by junior Janelle Poorman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area), giving Lycoming a 4-3 lead.

Albright took the lead back in the seventh inning, as two runs scored on an error.

Poorman went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Braga finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Lesser scored twice for Lycoming.

Carlucci led the Lions with three hits, two runs and two RBI and Kiersten Gilfoy added three hits and a run.

Lapano (1-3) took the loss for Lycoming, allowing two hits and two runs in one inning of relief. Alex Tragno (1-0) earned the win for Albright, allowing two hits and one run in three innings of relief. She struck out one.

In the first game, Lycoming pounded eight hits and added four walks, but left 12 runners stranded, as Albright was able to capture a 3-2 win behind a strong pitching effort from Stephanie Romano.

Romano (3-7) allowed eight hits, four walks and two runs in the complete-game win. She struck out four and left seven runners in scoring position in the contest.

Lansberry (3-7) was just as good for the Warriors, allowing just seven hits and two earned runs. She struck out three, but took the loss.

Carlucci hit a homer in the second inning to give Albright the lead, but the Warriors tied the game in the third, as Cline walked and Steiner followed with a bunt single. Cline stole third and scored on a sac fly by Lesser.

Three singles in the fifth helped Albright score two runs in the fifth, though, and the runs held up. Lycoming closed within a run with a score in the sixth, as sophomore Abbi Miller (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area), junior Allyson Marianelli (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge) and Lansberry each singled to start the inning before Cline walked in a run. However, a double play ended the inning.

Lesser and Marianelli each singled twice to lead the Warriors. Carlucci led the Lions with two hits, including the homer.

The Warriors are back on the field on Monday, April 16, when they head to Edwardsville, Pa., for a 3 p.m. doubleheader against Wilkes.
