Warriors fall twice to Division II teams to wrap up time at NCSI Invitational

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Despite a six-run seventh-inning comeback, the Lycoming College softball team fell to Division II Clarion University, 12-11, in eight innings to start its final day at the National Collegiate Softball Invitational at Central Park on Thursday afternoon, March 15. The Warriors wrapped up their time at the NCSI by dropping a 4-0 decision to Division II Concord, as they fell to 5-3 on the season. Clarion improved to 5-3 overall and Concord improved to 10-8 overall.
 
In the first game, the Warriors rallied from a 9-3 deficit to score six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Clarion scored three runs in the eighth inning to sneak away with the win.

Junior Amy Cline (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area), junior Taylor Lesser (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain), junior Janelle Poorman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) and freshman Katie Pugh (Sykesville, Md./Century) each posted three hits to lead the Warriors. Cline also added two runs, Lesser scored three times, Poorman drove in two and Pugh drove in three.

Rebecca Lynch and Taylor Powell had four hits for the Golden Eagles, with Lynch adding two RBI.

In the second game, Tamara Smith tossed a four-hitter to lead Concord to the win. Becca Gleason went 3-for-3 with two runs to lead the team offensively.

The Warriors get back on the field on Thursday, March 22, when they host Elizabethtown at the Shangraw Athletic Complex to begin Commonwealth Conference play. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
