WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - After their two regular-season games were decided by a grand total of five points, the Lycoming College and Widener University men’s basketball teams will meet again on Wednesday, Feb. 22. Only this time the stakes are a spot in the Commonwealth Conference Championship game against the winner of the Messiah and Albright game.
Lycoming (18-7 overall, 8-6 Commonwealth) won the first matchup, as junior Ihsaan Davis scored nine points in a row to tie the game with 3:54 left before the Warriors went on for a 66-62 win at Widener (18-7 overall, 9-5 Commonwealth). The Pride returned the favor in similar heartbreaking manner, as Lamar Jackson hit a second-chance layup to give them a 70-69 win with one second left at Lycoming.
Warrior Notes
• The Warriors and Pride have met three times in the postseason, once in the NCAA Tournament (1985), once in the Middle Atlantic Conference quarterfinals (2000) and once in the Commonwealth Conference Championship finals (2008). The Pride won all three games.
• The Pride have the top scoring offense in the conference at 81.3 points per game and the Warriors are second at 78.3.
• Junior Jerald Williams’ 80 steals this season are second in school history. He needs five to break his own school record of 84 set as a freshman.
• Senior Mike Bradley became the 38th player in school history to reach 900 career points with his seventh of nine points against Alvernia.
• The Warriors lead the Commonwealth Conference in free throw percentage (.703), blocked shots (6.1), assists (18.4), turnover margin (+5.40) and assist-turnover ratio (1.3).
