Box Score

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A 25-5 run between the first and second half helped the Lycoming College women’s basketball catapult itself into control, as it snapped a four-game skid and posted its sixth straight win over Albright College, 54-48, in Commonwealth Conference action on Wednesday evening, Feb. 1.

“I thought in the first half we had some really good looks at the basket and we just weren’t finishing them,” Lycoming head coach Christen Ditzler said. “The thing we talked about halftime the most was finishing and making the most of those opportunities. In the second half, we went on a nice run and made shots.”

Freshman Ali Derr (New Columbia, Pa./Milton Area) led the Warriors (9-10 overall, 4-5 Commonwealth) with her second career double-double, notching 12 points and 10 rebounds while fellow freshman Kylee Sutton (Wysox, Pa./Towanda Area) added 12 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Julia Antonelli (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) added nine points and seven rebounds as the Warriors held a 28-16 advantage in the paint and a 28-12 advantage in points off turnovers in the game.

After the teams battled through five lead changes and three ties in the opening 16 minutes of the half, Kari Ludy gave Albright (5-15 overall, 1-8 Commonwealth) a 19-16 lead with 4:04 left before the Warriors started their game-changing run. The Warriors tied the game with three free throws over the next two minutes and an old-fashioned three-point play by Derr gave the Warriors a 25-21 lead at the half.

Lycoming continued the run in the second half, as Scheller hit a 3-pointer and Sutton connected on five points in a row before Derr ended Lycoming’s run of 10 straight points to open the half. After a 3-pointer by Albright’s Amanda Tiritilli, Lycoming scored six more straight points to take a 41-24 lead with 10:08 left after a layup by Antonelli.

Albright worked back into the game with a 22-10 run, closing within five points with 33 seconds left, but the Warriors closed out the game by hitting 3-of-4 at the line.

Junior Rachael Scheller (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) added eight points, three rebounds and two assists and freshman Janelle Ziminski (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) added seven points, a career-high five steals and three assists for the Warriors.

Jenny Knoebel led the Lions with 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists and Kari Ludy added 10 points, five rebounds and three steals. Meghan Boyle added six points and 12 rebounds.

The Warriors stay at home on Saturday, Feb. 4, when they host Arcadia at 1 p.m. The men’s teams tip to cap the doubleheader at 3 p.m.
