WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Despite four players finishing in double figures, the Lycoming College men’s basketball team was unable to overcome a hot-shooting night from Albright College, as it fell, 92-77, in Commonwealth Conference action on Wednesday night, Feb. 1.
After the two teams traded four ties and seven lead changes in the first 10 minutes of the game, Lycoming scored seven straight points, capping the run on a fastbreak layup by junior
Ihsaan Davis (Jamaica, N.Y./Christ the King) to take a 25-18 lead. Lycoming maintained the lead until the 5:25 mark of the half, when Albright closed the half on a 16-7 run, taking a two-point lead with 16 seconds left on a layup by Kyle Jordan.
After the Warriors (16-4 overall, 6-3 Commonwealth) took a two-point lead early in the second half, the Lions (12-8 overall, 3-6 Commonwealth) scored nine straight points to take the lead for good.
The Warriors cut the lead to a point at 53-52 after a layup by freshman
Chris Foreman (Union, N.J./Union) with 13:53 left in the half, but the Lions used an 15-2 run to take a 68-54 lead with 9:10 left. Lycoming cut the lead to seven points with 2:24 left after a pair of free throws from junior
Anthony Martin (Detroit, Mich./Christ the King) made it 82-75. However, the Lions closed the game on a 10-2 run to secure the win.
Foreman led the Warriors with 17 points and two assists and senior
Mike Bradley (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph’s Prep) added 14 points and eight rebounds. Both freshman
Patrick Dougher (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) and Martin added 10 points. Junior
Jerald Williams (Riverdale, Md./Bladensberg) led the team with four assists and three steals and sophomore
Michael Rudy (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) added three blocks.
Derek Hall led the Lions, who shot 54 percent (35-for-65) from the floor in the game, with 30 points, 19 in the second half, and eight rebounds. Kyle Joradn posted 17 points and three assists and Cornell Mickens posted 15 points, five rebounds and four assists. Sam Marella posted 11 points and five assists and Dave Singleton led the team with seven dimes and three assists.
The Warriors stay at home on Saturday, Feb. 4, when they host conference foe Arcadia at 3 p.m. The women’s teams start the doubleheader at 1 p.m.
