BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Sophomore Brian Watkins (Bear Gap, Pa./Southern Columbia) and junior Greg Wetzel (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington) each posted close decisions to lead the Lycoming College wrestling team, but the College at Brockport was able to take eight matches to post a 29-6 decision at the Special Events Recreation Center on Friday night, Dec. 7.
 
After the Golden Eagles (1-0 overall) picked up four wins to start the match, the Warriors (1-2 overall) got on the board at 157 pounds with Watkins’ match against Brandon Volpe. Watkins picked up a penalty point in the second period to take a lead and then earned an escape later in the period, which was enough for him to take the 2-0 win.
 
Wetzel continued to wrestle tough, posting a 3-0 win over Bradley Haggerty. He posted a takedown late in the first period and added an escape in the second to secure the win.
 
Brockport closed the meet with four more wins, although they won the last three matches by a combined four points.
 
The Warriors get back on the mat after the Holiday break on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 with the Pa./N.Y. Duals when they face RIT at 2 p.m. and SUNY Oswego at 4 p.m. at RIT.
