Basinger Tournament Central
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Four Lycoming College men’s basketball players finished in double figures to pace the Warriors to a school-record winning margin of 76 points, downing Cairn University, 103-27, in the opening round of the third annual Louis Fleming Basinger Memorial Tournament on Saturday night, Dec. 29.
Senior
Ihsaan Davis (Jamaica, N.Y./Christ the King) led the Warriors (10-1 overall), who saw 13 players figure into the scoring, with 19 points and three 3-pointers, as he closed within 13 points of becoming the 29
th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points.
Junior
Kevin Anthony (Columbus, Ohio/Bridgton Academy) and freshman
William Wingate (Philadelphia, Pa./Mastery Charter) each posted 12 points, with Anthony connecting on 5-of-6 attempts from the field and throwing down two dunks to start the game and Wingate adding eight rebounds and three assists.
In addition, three players posted nine points – junior
Justin Miller (Agawam, Mass./Bridgton Academy), senior
Anthony Martin (Detroit, Mich./Christ the King) and freshman
Rob Pillow IV (Anchorage, Alaska/Robinson Secondary (Va.)).
The Warriors started the game with two dunks from Anthony before Cairn (1-7 overall) closed within a point at 5-4. The Warriors reeled off eight points before the next Highlander bucket and after that bucket, the Warriors scored the next 34 points to take a 47-7 lead with 5:37 left in the half. The Warriors expanded the lead to 57-13 by the break.
In the second half, the Warriors took just 34 shots from the field, hitting 17, en route to a 46-point half to cross the century mark for the second time this season.
The Warriors held the Highlanders to 17 percent (10-for-59) from the field and posted 21 steals, leading to 33 points off turnovers and 31 points on the fastbreak.
Cairn was led by five points each from Charles Hopkins, Chase Brunner and Kyle Bonner. Reuben Lacy posted four points and 11 rebounds and Aaron Stovall posted three assists.
The Warriors get back on the court on Saturday, Dec. 29, when they host John Jay, 74-65 winners over Gallaudet in the other first round game, in the Basinger Tournament Championship game at 3 p.m. Gallaudet faces Cairn in the consolation game at 1 p.m.
