WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - After a tough one-point loss to the defending Freedom Conference champions, Misericordia, on Nov. 20, the Lycoming College women’s basketball team will get back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 28, when it faces Alvernia in the Commonwealth Conference season opener.
The Warriors (0-3 overall, 0-0 Commonwealth) are led by freshman
Shannon Wheeler, who is averaging 10.0 points and 3.7 assists through the first three games. Senior
Rachael Scheller is adding 9.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.0 steals per game.
The Crusaders (2-1 overall, 0-0 Commonwealth) are coming off a 60-53 win over Immaculate on Nov. 20. Stevie Fortna led the Crusaders with 21 points and Chelsea Ebersole added 15.
Warrior Notes
• The Warriors are 2-3 all-time in Commonwealth Conference season openers, posting a 60-50 win over Albright in the conference opener in 2011-12.
• Senior
Rachael Scheller needs seven assists to pass Jen Holt, who posted 218 career helpers from 1995-98, for sixth in school history.
• Scheller needs nine points to become the 25th player in school history to reach 600 career points.
• Five Warrior freshmen (
Shannon Wheeler,
Taylor Ford,
Shanley Harlacker,
Olivia Manges and
Victoria Siebecker) have combined to post 49 percent of the team’s 170 points this season.
• Wheeler’s eight assists against Misericordia were the most for the Warriors since Scheller posted nine against Marywood on Jan. 5, 2012.
• Harlacker has hit a 3-pointer in each of the team’s first three games.
