SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Double-doubles by junior
Kevin Anthony (Columbus, Ohio/Bridgton Academy) and senior
Jerald Williams (Riverdale, Md./Bladensburg) helped lead the Lycoming College men’s basketball team to its fourth straight win over rival Susquehanna University, 80-69, on Tuesday night, Nov. 20, at O.W. Houts Gymnasium.
The senior group of Williams,
Ihsaan Davis (Jamaica, N.Y./Christ the King),
John Ryan Wolff (Morrisville, Pa./Pennsbury) and
Anthony Martin (Detroit, Mich./Christ the King) became the first group to graduate without losing to the Crusaders since the class of 1969.
Williams finished with 10 points, 11 assists and six steals to pace the Warrior offense and Anthony added 18 points and 12 rebounds.
“Jerald just keeps going,” fifth-year head coach
Guy Rancourt said. “That style and that frenetic pace, he thrives in that and enjoys the opportunity.”
Meanwhile, the Lycoming bench accounted for 50 of the team’s 80 points, led by Anthony’s 18 points and 16 points from sophomore
Patrick Dougher (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) and 12 points from Martin.
“The guys off the bench played great,” Rancourt said. “A lot of them have started before in their careers and having that experience I think has really helped them.”
The Crusaders cut the lead to a point early in the second half at 39-38, but the Warriors went on a 17-6 run over the next seven minutes to take control, as Anthony capped the run with back-to-back layups.
Susquehanna shaved the lead to nine points three times after that, they couldn’t get close than that until the final 71 seconds, when Harvey Pannell hit a 3-pointer to make it 75-67. Williams answered with three free throws to get the lead back to 11. A pair of free throws from each team helped round out the final seconds of the game.
The Warriors leapt out to a 10-0 lead in the opening 2:33, with junior
Justin Miller (Agawam, Mass./Bridgton Academy) hitting a pair of jumpers to bookend the runs and sophomore
Chris Foreman (Union, N.J./Union) canning two 3-pointers in the middle of it.
The Warriors kept shooting, building the lead to as many as 15 points after 3-pointers by Dougher and Foreman made it 26-11 with 10:36 left.
Over the next 10 minutes, the Crusaders cut the lead down to a point with 25 seconds left at 36-35, but Dougher canned a trey to take a four-point lead into the break.
