Warriors fall to Moravian

LANCASTER, Pa. – Six Lycoming College women’s basketball players combined for 33 points off the bench, but Moravian College rallied from a two-point halftime deficit to take a 71-60 decision in the final round of the Terry Greene Memorial Classic at the Mayser Center on Sunday, Nov. 18.
 
Freshman Shannon Wheeler (Cranford, N.J./Linden) led the Warriors (2-0 overall) with 11 points, two assists and two steals, as she hit 5-of-11 shots. Sophomore Kylee Sutton (Wysox, Pa./Towanda Area) added nine points and two steals and the freshmen pair of Shanley Harlacker (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion Area) and Olivia Manges (York, Pa./West York) combined for 11 points off the bench.

Harlacker earned All-Classic honors for the Warriors, as the freshman averaged 6.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.
 
Among the starters, junior Julia Antonelli (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) posted six points, 12 rebounds and two blocks. Senior Rachael Scheller (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) added eight points, four steals and two assists. Sophomore Kat Andriani (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) posted four points and eight rebounds. Freshman Taylor Ford (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) led the team with three assists.
 
Lycoming fell behind 15-8 in the first five minutes of the game before Harlacker connected on a three, igniting the Warriors on a 18-4 run over the next eight minutes, with sophomore Janelle Ziminski (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) capped the run with a fastbreak layup with 6:43 left in the half. The Greyhounds (3-0 overall) cut the lead to one point twice in the half, but could get no closer, as a free throw by Ziminski with 1:06 left in the half helped the Warriors take a 32-30 lead into the break.
 
Danielle Brogan gave the Greyhounds their first lead of the game with a 3-pointer to start the second half, and a 12-2 run to start the half helped give Moravian control. The Warriors cut the lead to six once, but Moravian was able to get the lead to as many as 14 twice in the final minutes of the game.
 
Alexis Wright led the Greyhounds with 23 points, 14 rebounds, three blocks and two steals and both Katie O’Rourke and Brogan each had 16. O’Rourke also had seven assists. Laura Jordan posted 10 points, six rebounds and a team-high three steals.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Tuesday, Nov. 20, when they host 2012 Freedom Conference champion Misericordia at Lamade Gym at 6 p.m.
