Warriors split pair of conference matches, beating Hood and falling to Stevenson

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Buoyed by solid hitting efforts from senior Jackie Oliva (Barnesville, Pa./Mahanoy Area) and junior Shelby Gear (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili), the Lycoming College volleyball team downed Hood College, 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-16), in the opener of a Commonwealth Conference tri-match before falling to Stevenson University, 3-0 (25-16, 25-9, 25-14), in the second match at Owings Mills Gym on Saturday, Oct. 13.
 
Oliva led the Warriors (18-6 overall, 3-4 Commonwealth) with nine kills against the Blazers (6-15 overall, 0-6 Commonwealth), hitting .538 and adding two kills. Gear posted eight kills, while hitting .438, to go with three digs and a block.
 
Freshman Bethany Richardson (York, Pa./West York) added six kills, five digs and three blocks and junior Katelyn McKillop (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) added 24 assists, 12 digs and three aces. Sophomore Kristin Whitehead (Avon, Ohio/Avon) posted 11 digs and two aces. Sophomore Kylee Sutton (Wysox, Pa./Towanda Area) and sophomore Amber Seibel (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) each had four kills, with Seibel posting nine digs.
 
Brittany Lethbridge posted six kills to lead the Blazers and Amy Hagerdon posted five kills and 13 digs. Alyssa Eshleman posted 10 assists and eight digs.
 
In the second match, Stevenson hit a solid .263, posting 39 kills and grabbing 60 digs to post a 3-0 (25-16, 25-9, 25-14) win over the Warriors.
 
Richardson and Oliva each posted five kills to lead the Warriors, with Richardson adding six digs and two aces. McKillop posted 16 assists and 11 digs for her fourth straight double-double. Both Whitehead and Seibel each added 15 digs and Sutton led the team with two blocks.
 
Imani Hudson and Megan Miller led the Mustangs (28-2 overall, 8-0 Commonwealth) with nine kills each and Miller posted three blocks. Kristen Lubeski added eight kills and Christine Isenberg notched seven kills, two aces and 13 digs. Samantha Perillo also posted 15 digs and Jessica Gieselman contributed 33 assists and seven digs.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Wednesday, Oct. 17, when they host Lebanon Valley in a critical Commonwealth Conference match at Lamade Gym at 7 p.m. The Warriors enter the match one game behind the Dutchmen for the fifth and final conference playoff slot.
