Warriors charge back to down Lancaster Bible in five

Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – After falling in the first two sets, the Lycoming College volleyball team rebounded with three solid victories led by a solid defensive effort that allowed Lancaster Bible College to hit -.012 in the final three sets to notch a 3-2 (18-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-13, 15-11) win in non-conference action on Thursday night, Oct. 11, at the Horst Athletic Center.
 
Freshman Bethany Richardson (York, Pa./West York) led the Warriors (17-5 overall) with 14 kills, including six in the third set to start the comeback. Sophomore Amber Seibel (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) added 13 kills and 13 digs and junior Shelby Gear (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) added 11 kills, four digs and two blocks.
 
Junior Katelyn McKillop (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) posted a career-high tying 52 assists and 15 digs and sophomore Kristin Whitehead (Avon, Ohio/Avon) added 26 digs and four aces. Junior Cortney Tice (Canton, Pa./Canton) also added 13 digs and an ace.
 
After the Chargers (10-15 overall) posted a 25-18 first set by hitting .310, they added a narrow 25-21 win in the second set.
 
In the third set, though, the Warriors took over when Richardson slammed down three straight kills to give the team a 6-3 lead and ignite a 6-2 run. The Chargers got within a point at 9-8, but a kill by sophomore Kylee Sutton (Wysox, Pa./Towanda Area) got Lycoming started on a 11-2 run that featured seven service points from Seibel. From there, the Warriors held on for a 25-18 win.
 
In the fourth set, the Warriors took the lead at 4-3 and never looked back, starting a 16-5 run en route to a 25-13 win. They clinched the comeback with by scoring three straight points off Richardson’s serve to break a 4-4 tie in the fifth set. The lead grew to six points at 13-6 before the Chargers scored four straight points. However, Seibel and Richardson terminated kills to close out the set, 15-11, in the Warriors’ favor.
 
The Chargers were led by 20 kills and 21 digs from Lauren Heliger and 11 kills and 13 digs from Lauren Daniels. Grace Scheuerman posted 16 digs and two aces and Hannah Metzler added 35 assists and 15 digs. Joanna Butala added four aces.
 
The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 13 when they head to Owings Mills, Md., for a Commonwealth Conference tri-match, facing Stevenson at 11 a.m. and Hood at 1 p.m.
