WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore
Sam Stropko (Sayre, Pa./Athens Area) made eight saves, including six in the second half, for the Lycoming College women’s soccer team, but two first half goals by Nicole Snyder helped lift Lebanon Valley College to a 2-0 Commonwealth Conference win at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Wednesday, Oct. 10.
Snyder got the Dutchmen (7-5 overall, 3-1 Commonwealth) on the board in the 21
st minute, taking a shot on a breakaway that rebounded off the Lycoming keeper and then followed her shot with another into the center of the net. In the 27
th minute, Snyder redirected a corner kick by Stevi Laird into the right corner.
Lycoming (1-9-3 overall, 0-3-1 Commonwealth) settled into the match in the second half, shutting down Lebanon Valley despite 11 Dutchmen shots. Meanwhile, the offense had a couple solid opportunities, from freshman
Kalynn Newman (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville Area). Newman led the team with three shots in the game.
Stropko finished with eight saves in 81 minutes and senior
Jennifer Basch (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) also played nine minutes for the Warriors. Lebanon Valley keeper Becca Sykes made two saves in the shutout.
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Oct. 13, when they host Stevenson in a 3:30 p.m. Commonwealth Conference match at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
