Warriors look to snap skid in crucial showdown with Albright

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - After playing the top four teams in the Commonwealth Conference in its last four games, the Lycoming College women’s basketball team will play a pair of second-division teams this week looking to make up some ground in the chase for one of four conference playoffs slots, starting with a 6 p.m. game against Albright on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

Two games outside the fourth and final Commonwealth Conference Championship slot, the Warriors (8-10 overall, 3-5 Commonwealth)  are led by sophomore Julia Antonelli, who is one of six players in the league ranked in the top 10 in scoring (eighth, 11.2) and rebounding (sixth, 7.6).

The Lions (5-14 overall, 1-7 Commonwealth) are coming off an 84-43 loss to Messiah. Freshman Jessica Venturelli led the Lions with 12 points.

Game Notes

• The Warriors need one more win to match the most in conference play since joining the Commonwealth Conference in 2007-08.

• Sophomore Julia Antonelli is averaging 15.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in three career games against Albright.


• Antonelli is tied for second in the conference with seven 10-rebound games.

• The Warriors have two of the top five free throw shooters in the conference, as Antonelli is second at .847 and freshman Kylee Sutton is fifth at .796.

• Freshman Janelle Ziminski finished third on the Warriors in scoring in January, averaging 6.6 points per game, and she was second on the squad with 18 steals.

• Junior Rachael Scheller became the fourth person in school history to post 50 steals twice in a career with her third of five against Lebanon Valley.

• Freshman Ali Derr is two points away from reaching 100 points in his career.
