Warriors start New Year with tough non-conference test in Marywood

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - After a pair of games in Las Vegas wrapped up 2011 for the Lycoming College women’s basketball team, the team will get back in action after a two-week break by facing a hot Marywood University club on Thursday, Jan. 5.

The Warriors (5-5 overall) are coming off a pair of losses in the Las Vegas Hoopla, but they have won five of their last six games in the Keystone State, including a pair of Commonwealth Conference wins. Junior guard Rachael Scheller leads the team with an average of 11.8 points per game and sophomore forward Julia Antonelli adds 11.3 points.

The Pacers (8-2 overall) have won four straight, including a 57-51 win over Trine at the Land of Magic Classic on Dec. 30. Senior Marielle Thorsen crossed 1,000 career points in the win.

• Junior Julia Antonelli needs 21 points to reach 400 in her career.

• Junior Rachael Scheller became the 15th player in school history to reach 150 in a career with her first of two helpers against Benedictine.

• Scheller has led the Warriors in scoring in six of eight games this year.

• Senior Chelsea Shearer needs two more 3-pointers to become the 17th player in school history to can 50 in a career.

• Shearer is averaging 9.0 points per home game this year, 2.8 points more than her season average.

• Lycoming is outscoring its opponents, 21.8-15.4, in points in the paint.

• The Warriors group of seven freshmen have accounted for 31 percent of the team’s points this year, led by 6.4 points from Kylee Sutton and 5.4 from Ali Derr.
