Warriors look for first win in Chester in battle of third-place teams


WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Having won six road games in a row, the Lycoming College women’s basketball team will head to Widener University looking for lucky No. 7 in Commonwealth Conference action on Saturday, Jan. 21.

The Warriors (8-7 overall, 3-2 Commonwealth) are coming off a 51-34 loss to preseason conference favorite Messiah, as they outshot the Falcons, 40 percent to 34 percent and held a 34-25 advantage on the glass. Senior Chelsea Shearer led the team with 10 points and two 3-pointers.

The Pride (10-6 overall, 3-2 Commonwealth) are coming off a 78-55 win over Arcadia, as junior Vanessa Hejnas led the team with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Widener notched 18 steals in the game.

• The Warriors have outshot their opponents from the field in 11 of 15 games this season.

• Sophomore Julia Antonelli is one of six players in the Commonwealth Conference amongst the top 10 in the league in scoring (10.9, ninth) and rebounding (7.6, seventh).

• Antonelli’s 10 rebounds against Messiah gave her six double-figure rebounding efforts this season and eight in her career.

• Senior Erin Connaghan needs six points to reach 300 in her career.

• Connaghan needs two steals to surpass her previous career high of 27 set as a junior.

• Junior Rachael Scheller is 10th in school history with 129 career steals.

• Scheller needs 14 points to reach 500 in her career.

• Freshman Kylee Sutton needs three points to reach 100 on the season. She has three double-figure games this season.
