WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The next two weeks and four games should have a lot to say about the Lycoming College women’s basketball team’s chances to make the Commonwealth Conference playoffs, as the Warriors will face each of the other top five teams in the conference standings, starting with a 6 p.m. start against preseason conference favorite Messiah on Wednesday, Jan. 17.
The Warriors (8-6 overall, 3-1 Commonwealth) scored a season-high 74 points in a six-point win at Arcadia on Saturday, Jan. 14. Sophomore Julia Antonelli led the Warriors with 17 points in the game and junior Leeann Randall added a career-high tying 16.
The Falcons (12-3 overall, 3-1 Commonwealth) are coming off a 58-48 win over fifth-place Widener on Saturday, Jan. 14.
Game Notes
• The Warriors’ last win against Messiah was a 70-56 triumph in the opening round of the 1995 Middle Atlantic Conference playoffs.
• Five players scored in double figures for the Warriors against Arcadia - sophomore Julia Antonelli (17), junior Leeann Randall (16), freshman Kylee Sutton (12), senior Chelsea Shearer (12) and junior Rachael Scheller (10). It was the first time five players finished in double figures for Lycoming since a 66-60 win over King’s on Dec. 10, 2009.
• Senior Erin Connaghan has two or more steals in six of the last seven games. She is ninth in the league in the category (1.8).
• Connaghan needs nine points to reach 300 in her career. She reached 100 career assists with her last of four at Arcadia.
• Junior Rachael Scheller is tied with Emily DiMarco (2000-04) for 10th in school history with 128 career thefts.
