GLENSIDE, Pa. – With a bench effort that yielded 33 points, including a career-high tying 16 from junior
Leeann Randall (Audobon, Pa./Methacton), the Lycoming College women’s basketball team was able to hold off a late Arcadia University run to post a 74-68 win in Commonwealth Conference action at the Kuch Center Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 14.
The Warriors (8-6 overall, 3-1 Commonwealth) were aided by a stellar effort from beyond-the-arc, with Randall and senior
Chelsea Shearer (Dallastown, Pa./East York) combining for six treys, as the team hit 7-of-12 (58 percent) during the game.
The Warriors got rolling three minute s into the first half when Shearer canned a pair of treys to give the team an 8-5 lead and start a run of nine straight points to give the team an 11-5 lead with 15:48 left. Arcadia stayed close for much of the next five minutes before Randall knocked down a pair of triples to give the Warriors a 29-19 lead with 8:00 remaining before she hit two more free throws to extend the lead further. Arcadia cut the lead to seven with 1:21 left, but a pair of free throws from Randall started a run of six straight points by the Warriors to close the half with a 44-31 lead.
In the second half, the Warriors got the lead to 15 points at 48-33 before Arcadia went on an 11--0 run to cut the lead to four points with 15:25 left. The Warriors got the lead back to nine after a jumper by sophomore
Julia Antonelli (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) with 11:16 remaining, but the Knights (3-10 overall, 0-4 Commonwealth) responded with eight straight points to cut the lead to a point.

Kylee Sutton (Wysox, Pa./Towanda Area) stopped the run and back-to-back 3-pointers by Scheller and Shearer with the clock rolling under four minutes gave Lycoming a 65-56 lead. The Knights cut the lead down to two points with 56 seconds left thanks to a 10-3 run, but the Warriors hit 6-of-8 free throws in the last minute to ice the game.
Antonelli led the Warriors with 17 points, three rebounds and three assists and Randall added 16 points, using a 7-of-9 effort at the line and three trifectas. Shearer and Sutton both posted 12 points, as Sutton notched five rebounds. Scheller finished with 10 points and four assists.
Freshman
Kat Andriani (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) finished with career highs of five points and seven rebounds and freshman
Janelle Ziminski (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) added three steals. Senior
Erin Connaghan (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) posted five rebounds and a team-high four assists.
Angie Adams led the Knights with 18 points, five assists and two steals and Victoria Roukas notched 24 points and 12 rebounds. Jackie Law added five points, four rebounds and five steals.
The Warriors get back on the court on Wednesday, Jan. 18, when they face preseason conference favorite Messiah, at 6 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader. The men’s teams will tip at 8 p.m.
