Davis’ clutch threes help Warriors down Arcadia, 74-64, on the road

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Down by two points with less than 10 minutes to play, the Lycoming College men’s basketball team rallied with eight straight points to take control of the game, as junior Ihsaan Davis (Jamaica, N.Y./Christ the King) capped the run with a pair of 3-pointers in a span of 29 seconds, and roll to a 74-64 win over Arcadia University in Commonwealth Conference action at the Kuch Center Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 14.
 
The Warriors (14-1 overall, 4-0 Commonwealth) improved to 4-0 in league play for the first time since 2002-03, as they shot a crisp 50 percent (28-of-56) from the field while holding the Knights (8-6 overall, 2-2 Commonwealth) to 38 percent (21-of-56).
 
Davis, who crossed 800 career points in the game, finished with 20 points, hitting five 3-pointers, to lead Lycoming, who had three players finish in double figures. Sophomore Michael Rudy (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) notched his first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 13 rebounds and senior Mike Bradley (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph’s Prep) added 12 points and six rebounds. Junior Jerald Williams (Riverdale, Md./Bladensberg) added eight points, eight assists and two steals and senior Austin Smith (Lansdowne, Pa./Penn Wood) posted eight points and two steals.
 
Down by two points, the Warriors tied the game with a second-chance layup from Bradley before an Arcadia turnover set up a trey by Davis. Another turnover on a steal by Smith led to another triple from Davis, giving the Warriors a 58-52 lead with 7:00 left. The Knights never got within five after that and Lycoming closed the game by hitting 7-of-8 free throws in the last 1:37.
 
The Warriors jumped out to a quick 11-3 lead after a pair of free throws from Davis with 15:49 left and stretched the lead to 10 points with 8:34 left before a 10-1 Arcadia run cut the lead to one point at 21-20 with 5:17 left. From there, the Knights kept Lycoming with five points and a 3-pointer from Khalief Trawick tied the game at 29 heading into the break.
 
The two teams played evenly through much of the first 10 minutes of the second half, going through two lead changes and four ties before a 3-pointer by Jason Thompson gave the Knights a 52-50 lead with 9:26 left, setting up the Warriors’ solid finish.
 
Travis Saltus led the Knights with 14 points and four assists and Jason Thompson posted 12 points on four triples. Trawick posted seven points, six rebounds and four assists and Jose Figueroa added nine points and seven rebounds.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Wednesday, Jan. 18, when they face preseason conference favorite Messiah, at 8 p.m. in the finale of a doubleheader. The women’s teams will tip at 6 p.m.
