WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Sophomore Katelyn McKillop (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) posted her second double-double of the season with 36 assists and 13 digs and junior Jackie Oliva (Barnesville, Pa./Mahoney Area) continued her solid early season work by posting 13 kills and hitting .357 to lead the Lycoming College volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-16, 25-18, 23-25, 25-17) win over Mount Aloysius in non-conference action on Tuesday night, Sept. 6.
The Warriors (3-0 overall) hit a solid .219 in the four-set match, posting just 16 errors. Oliva led the team with 13 kills, four digs and two blocks and sophomore Shelby Gear (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) added 11 kills and three digs. Senior Heather Keller (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) added eight kills and six digs.
In the first set, the Warriors used a 9-4 run after it was tied at three to take control of the set. The Warriors extended the lead to as many as seven before closing the set with the final three points, as McKillop notched a kill to secure the 25-16 win.
In the second set, the Warriors took a four-point lead at 9-5 before the Mounties rallied back to tie it at 13, However, kills by Keller and Gear spearheaded a 4-0 run to put the Warriors in control and another late four-point unanswered run helped the Warriors take the 25-18 decision.
Mount Aloysius fought back in the third set, with the two teams fighting out to a tie at 22 before back-to-back blocks from Mounties helped them force a fourth set.
In the fourth stanza, the Warriors broke away with five straight points off the serve of sophomore Chelsee Strine (South Boardman, Mich./Forest Area), as she served up two aces in the run to give the Warriors a 17-9 lead. From there, the Mounties couldn’t close within five points and the Warriors closed the 25-17 win on a kill from freshman Amber Seibel (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette).
Strine posted seven kills, four digs and a match-high three aces and Seibel posted two kills and 10 digs. Freshman Kristen Whitehead (Avon, Ohio/Avon) posted 20 digs to lead the team.
Mariah McDowell notched 11 kills, 11 digs, two aces and two blocks and Kelsie Spaid notched 10 kills and two digs for the Mounties. Lauren Oldham added 33 assists and 16 digs and Chelsea Prehenzic notched nine kills and 21 digs.
The Warriors get back on the court on Friday, Sept. 9 when they head to the Dickinson Invitational. They will face York (Pa.) at 4 p.m. before facing Dickinson at 8 p.m.
