HERSHEY, Pa. –
Sophomore Stephen Romano (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) capped off a remarkable comeback for the Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team on Thursday night, April 21, at Hersheypark Stadium, as he netted the game-winner in double-overtime to lift the Warriors to a 7-6 win over Elizabethtown in Middle Atlantic Conference action.

The Warriors (8-6 overall, 7-2 MAC) manufactured the fourth-quarter comeback from down 6-4 as junior Luke VanEmburg (Orefield, Pa./Parkland) found junior Ethan Payne (Farmington, N.Y./Victor) on the right win for a goal with 8:17 left. Just 40 seconds later, Payne struck end, denting the twine on a shot in the circle on a give Romano.

In the second overtime, junior Tim Clemente (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) picked up the faceoff and the Warriors never gave the ball up. After a shot went wide, senior Kevin Pfister (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) found Romano at the top of the circle for the golden goal.

Both teams matched each other through the first half, as Elizabethtown’s Cory Bushnell scored first, but Lycoming’s Romano answered with 3:37 left with a goal from the left wing. In the second quarter, freshman Brett Farrell (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) gave the Warriors the lead with 9:26 left, but the Blue Jays (6-6 overall, 4-5 MAC) answered as Shawn Corcoran picked up two goals in the next three minutes. Farrell tied the score, though, with an unassisted tally 1:54 before the half.

In the third quarter, the Blue Jays got a pair of goals in the first nine minutes before Romano found Farrell to complete hit hat trick with 4:28 left to make it 5-4. However, Derek Neiheiser scored for the Blue Jays with 1:31 left to give E-town a two-goal lead, setting up the dramatic finish.

Romano finished with two goals and two assists to lead Lycoming and Farrell added three goals. Payne posted two goals and Clemente led the team with six groundballs.

Corcoran and Boushell led the Blue Jays with two goals and an assist each and Derek Neiheiser added two goals. Mike Kenneally led the Blue Jays with eight groundballs and Casey Decker also posted five.

The Warriors get back on the field on Tuesday,  April 26, at 4 p.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex when they host Messiah in a MAC contest with plenty of playoff implications on the line.
