WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. –
Despite bringing the winning run to the plate in both ends of a  non-conference doubleheader at a rain-soaked Shangraw Athletic Complex Softball Field, the Lycoming College softball team fell to Misericordia, 1-0 and 6-4, on Monday, April 18.

In the first game, Caitlin Cromley threw a four-hit shutout to lead the Cougars to a 1-0 win, spoiling a five-hitter from sophomore Holly Lansberry (Curwensville, Pa./Curwensville Area).

The Cougars scratched their lone run across in the sixth inning, as Kat LaBrie walked and Amanda Polaha followed with a double, allowing LaBrie to score on a two-out error.

Lansberry (6-5) pitched well for the Warriors, allowing five hits, five walks and an unearned run. She struck out seven and allowed just two runners to reach third base.

Cromley held the Warriors in check, never letting a runner past second base, despite walking one and allowing four hits. She struck out three. She was also the only player in the game to record two hits.

In the second game, a three-run homer from LaBrie in the sixth inning capped a six-run frame to lift the Cougars to the 6-4 win.

The Warriors got out to an early lead, as senior Shauna Starr (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) hit a double and sophomore Brie Braga (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) added a single before scoring on a groundout by freshman Abbi Miller (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area).

Lycoming added three more runs in the fourth, as sophomore Janelle Poorman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) hit her fifth career homer to start a rally. Starr followed with a single and Braga followed with a walk. After a flyout, an error loaded the bases and sophomore Bethany Garnand (Hagerstown, Md./Smithsburg) and Lansberry each posted RBI singles.

Down 4-0, the Cougars used four hits, a walk and a fielder’s choice to post six runs in the sixth inning, capped by LaBrie’s homer. The Warriors rallied in the seventh inning, with a double from sophomore Taylor Lesser (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) and a walk by Starr bringing the winning run to the plate with two outs, but a popout ended the game.

Starr finished 2-for-3 with two runs and Lesser also went 2-for-4 to lead the Warriors offensively. The Cougars were led by LaBrie, who had the homer and four RBIs.

Braga (2-5) took the loss, allowing six hits and six runs in 5 2/3 innings before Lansberry got the last four outs without allowing a run. Braga struck out four and Lansberry punched out two.

Emily Barnable (1-0) earned the win for the Cougars, allowing three hits in three shutout innings of relief. She struck out three.

Lycoming heads to Arcadia for a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 18 for a 3 p.m. start.
