CHESTER, Pa. –
Senior Kaitlyn Ober (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) became the 11th player in school history to post 900 career points and she finished the regular season as the Commonwealth Conference’s top scorer thanks to a 21-point game on Saturday, but the Lycoming College women’s basketball team fell to hot-shooting and hard-rebounding Widener club, 84-59, in conference action on Saturday, Feb. 19.

Ober posted 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting, passing the 900-point mark with her 18th point of the game, wrapping up a dominating season with a 14.6 scoring average, which currently tops the Commonwealth Conference. The Warriors finished their 2010-11 season with a 9-16 overall record and a 4-10 mark in the Commonwealth Conference, a two-win improvement over 2009-10.

Ober also added team-highs of six rebounds, four assists and two steals as she finished her career with three straight 20-point games, while senior Rebecca Spencer (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy) wrapped up his career with six points and three rebounds. Freshman Katelyn McKillop (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) finished with six points, hitting all three of her shots and freshman Jenna Morgan (Tyrone, Pa./Juniata Valley) added five points, hitting both of her shots, as the Warriors shot an impressive 53 percent (25-for-47) from the floor, but were hampered by missing 10 free throws and 16 Widener offensive rebounds.

The teams battled out to a tie at six before the third-place Pride (19-6 overall, 10-4 Commonwealth) went on a 20-2 run to take a 26-8 lead, capping the run with 3-pointers from Jennifer Egee and Tina Burg. The Warriors played even with the Pride for most of the rest of the half, with a pair of late free throws from Lil Carney lifting the Pride to a 20-point lead, 47-27, at intermission.

An 8-0 run by the Pride early in the second half helped ensure the win, as the Pride kept up a torrid effort from the floor and beyond-the-arc, shooting 48 percent (31-for-65)  from the field and 41 percent (9-for-22) from 3-point range, extending the lead to as many as 35 points by game’s end.

Kate Dellinger finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds and two assists to lead the Pride and Burg added 11 points and two assists.  Danielle Wetling posted 10 points and three steals and Jessica Abraguin notched eight points, seven assists and three steals as the Pride tied a school-record for most wins in a season.

Ober could fall into second in the conference in scoring in the postseason, as Widener’s Dellinger averages 17.1 points per game, but she has not played in the conference minimum of 75 percent of the team’s games. Dellinger, who has appeared in 18 of Widener’s 25 games this season, can qualify for the scoring title after appearing in Wednesday’s Commonwealth Conference semifinal against Messiah.
